2016 4Runner poor quality, early wear

Has anyone else noticed apparent lack of quality and premature wear of components in their 5 Gen 4Runner? I have a 2016 SR5 and I've noticed the following in a vehicle with less than 15,000 miles that is very gingerly driven:

1. Peeling or flaking on steering wheel "leather"
2. Crazing or cracking in the "chrome" plastic internal door handles
3. Rust on my running board & steps
4. Software or programming glitches w/ audio system
5. Chirping or squeaking in front suspension components (when hitting speed bump for example)


Anyone else?

Only #4 for me, but I already dumped the factory radio for an aftermarket Pioneer. No longer an issue.

I have same vehicle . no rust on run boards .. some on frame welds but I do treat this ..

no electrical issues/radio ... GPS does have some flaws in the data .

interior no issues on anything like you stated ..

I use vinyl cleaner to clean interior ..

steering wheel like day 1 .

you drive the vehicle into the gulf ? you live in the warm south with rust problems ? perhaps the 4runner was in a flood drive it in deep salty waters .

what cleaners do you use as leather will get damaged using the wrong cleaners .. acid will kill the interior .

The only time I have seen interior issues like that is when folks use lotions on their hands or have applied sunblock. Sunblock will crater leather, plastic and vinyl components quickly.

2016 with 25k miles. Only issue I have is the stereo struggling to start up every once in a while. Sounds like you must have gotten a Friday-car. You buy it new or used? If used, hopefully it wasn't in one of the mega floods in Houston in the past two years.

Did your 4runner spend a few days in one of these Houston parking lots? My '15 with 40k miles has none of those issues. Steering wheel looks like new. Interior plastics are easy to scratch, but the door handles are still like new. Stereo has had some software issues before an update. Otherwise no problems. And I beat the piss out of it.

considering picking up an aftermarket radio to utilize apple or android car play. My audi has it and I prefer it, I'll have to talk with the wife since the 4runner is hers still. I plan on keeping the 4runner hopefully for at least 10 years

2013 Trail 57K: No problems with any of the items listed... and actually no issue with 4Runner to report at all.

My rear right shock exploded somewhere between 10k and 15k miles. It also came from the factory pulling hard right and took 5 or so trips to the dealer to get the alignment fixed.

Any pics of the sidesteps? Those are dealer installed I believe, so not sure it's Toyota's fault.

The steering wheel and door handles would both be affected by anything you're putting on your hands or cleaning the wheel with, and then touching the handles.

Sunscreen, or other similar things?

The chirping over speed bumps could be related to tire pressure. What pressure are you at?

My steering wheel has the 'flaking' issue. I'm not sure if my Limited has a different steering wheel or not...but I'm at almost 110k, so it doesn't surprise me the leather is wearing out.

I have a TE 2016..None of the issues you mentioned except #4 when pairing with my wifes iPhone or using apps like whatsapp to take the call through on-screen menus.

Its been pretty solid so far!

I have a 16 Trail with similar mileage and it looks like new. Do you by any chance use bug repellent that has deet in it? Deet will destroy stuff.

To the op. Does your 4runner set out in the Texas sun all day without a sunblock cover on the windshield? My 14 has zero issues but it is in the garage most of the time. Also what protectant are you using on the steering wheel. I use Megquiars leather protectant.

Your dealer shouldn't be trusted.. you can align your car better than that at home with some string.

'12 Trail here. I have none of the issues that you are having other than some audio/phone pairing issues. However, the steering wheel on my '04 Corolla with 250k miles is beat to all hell. :rain:
