I’m taking responsibility so I’m not late bc that’s not who I am. these interviews are important for these applicants and I want to be there to support them. Thank for your concern. *facepalm*

I have a 3rd Gen that developed an evap code (CEL, Trac/VSC off) years ago. Was like that for a long time through several different attempts to fix. What I think caused mine - my grocery store, like many, offers fuel discounts. When using the discount, I would fill gas cans and then the truck, all the way up the filler neck to get the most bang for my buck. I think that degraded the filler neck fitting at the tank (or somewhere), throwing the code. The reason I think that's what happened is that a couple years ago, when filling, I saw gas running onto the ground. When I looked below, I saw fuel coming over the top of the fuel tank.

I think overfilling can also allow fuel to get into the charcoal canister and throw an evap code, but I have no idea if that happened to mine.

Happened to me on the 3rd gen, don't know if I caused by overfilling but that little canister was expensive to replace..this was long before I started working on my own car.

I guess they mean it when they say, don't top-up!!!

Lesson learned for me, lol! And the CEL and VSC/Trac off lights are still lit. I've never been in a position financially to pursue diagnosis/repairs with a service shop, so we've driven it for years like this, probably 130k miles or more. All I know is it's an evap condition.

My then girlfriend (now wife) went on a road trip in her Mazda3 a few years ago. She has lived in Oregon her entire life, and had never gone on a trip out of state where she was the driver, so she had never pumped her own gas.

She called me, in a panic, and told me her "service soon" light and a few others were on. There seemed to be no symptoms to worry about, so she finished her trip and came home.

The issue: Her fuel cap was GONE. Apparently the tether was broken, so she took it off and lost it. The worst thing was she filled the tank several times after, and somehow didn't notice! She is brilliant in a lot of ways, but really not a car person, obviously.

Had the same condition / lights come on in my 2016 SR5 at around 8000 miles.
Tried messing with the gas cap and clearing the codes but they kept coming back.

Have a gutted 2nd gen 95 4runner in my yard and swapped gas caps, lights cleared almost instantly and I've been running the older cap since then with no more issues.

My buddy drove off without removing the hose after filling up. That cost him quite a few bucks. Thank goodness we have break away hoses here in MA. Crazy thing was, he was totally sober. Definitely a face palm moment.

I am not married to my work and I have billion dollar companies asking me regularly for support. They will get their answer when I have it for them. I have a life too.

I work with Manged Care Organizations making sure their data is proper for reporting. I get plenty of hours for leave, both sick and annual, as well as an annuity when I retire. This country is a real shit hole.

Yes. I'll be on PETAs most wanted list when I'm done murking them all...

on another note, GEICO has handled this claim very well. Not taking my deductible into account, process seems very professional. Great communication with everyone involved. Still in the shop so I may be counting my chicken wings before they hit the fryer, but just sayin'.:toilet:

Tightened the gas cap (Was tight, just confirmed twice), re started (Multiple times), does not seem to be in Limp Mode.

Filled up on Sunday, no other issues, Just happened on the way to work today. I wont have time to get to the dealer this week unless this is an emergency.

I tried my code scanner, but could not get it to connect (Grrrr.)

I chased this same issue on my ten year old 04 and it was an O2 sensor.

Now I have a 2016 and am seeing the same thing. From my view, this sucks. Looks like the same Toyota software and design across the fleet, apparently for the last decade plus. Not sure what the logic is to turn off traction control when an O2 sensor signal is out of range ????
I guess that I should be happy that the vehicle didn't shut down and strand me somewhere!

Its crazy how a loose cap will cause such a crazy amount of random warnings that flood the dash board. I'd try auto zone for a code scan or get an app and dongle. I hate being at the mercy of dealerships and other service type industries. I'm a Mechanical Engineer., so I like to fix things myself and save the cash and time.

Know this is an old thread (and mine, LOL) but just re-noticed this. I'm a Consultant (mechanical engineer), so in essence I'm hourly. And I make enough per hour to WANT to be at work vs sitting at a dealer. I have full freedom on my hours and come and go as I please. I just prefer to make the $$.

2014- trac light on and check engine light

Hey!

Im so frustrated- I can't figure out what's wrong with my runner.
So about a month again the TRAC OFF light and the check engine light came on while I was driving. Everything is running the same. At first I went get the code checked(by three different people) and it was saying it was P0368 Camshaft position sensor B B1 circuit high.. I also replaced that sensor and it didn't clear the code. also now its not showing the eco mode. I've also tightened the gas cap- gotten another oil change.
I went to the dealership to have them read the code to see if they could see what it was.. they got the same code.. and they said they would have to do a..

--"We would graph the sensors and see why it’s not reading properly.. gears and chain/engine tear down would be in the $4-5k range

so long story short. I have no idea what's wrong.. and my runner is completely running fine.

I would love any help or advise. thank you .

Shot in the dark here… but considering your statement that 4Runner runs fine, I would say it is purely electrical issue… more likely wiring from that sensor is damaged and signal is not reaching the ECU… Culprits could be damaged wires\connectors caused by rodents, previous vehicle’s repairs (especially after collision), corrosion damaged connectors, and alike…
