Okay, the opening ceremonies for the Olympics start tonight and I know I'm not the only one excited about them. This tread is for anything Olympics, so feel free to express your opinion and your love of your country!

I'm super stoked. I love the Olympics. I know that the whole thing is so corrupt and jaded, but I don't care. I just wish they had better impartial coverage. I understand that a US channel is obviously going to have a US spin on it, but it's nice when events just get covered as a whole.

This year seems to also have the train wreck potential added to the mix too given all of the stuff going on with the venues and such.

I'll be watching the track and field train wreck. Local Mpls runner Hassan Mead ,who I competed against in high school (our schools are rivals in every sport), will be in the Men's 5000m run. I can't wait to watch him cuz he kicks ass and he kicked everyone's ass back in high school.

You know what day they will run the 5000m? I'll keep an eye out for him.

I was actually really impressed with the opening ceremonies. Beijing was far and away the biggest and most impressive, but this one was really amazing artistically. And given all the turmoil leading up to the opening, it was a great way to actually start the games.

Pretty sure it's Wednesday Aug. 17. I'll have to double check. Hepar
I haven't watched the opening ceremonies yet, just saw some bits but it looked great. I recorded it so I'll watch it tonight.

Ah. I'll try to record it. I'll be gone to the coast from the 17th to the 21st.

Entertaining first day. I think the biggest draw for me to the Olympics is the magnified thrill of victory and agony of defeat. To have all of the work and time they invest into these sports come down to fractions of moments is enthralling to me.
