I loved the Defender's. A black 2-door soft top was my dream vehicle in H.S. Seems like they still command quite a price even with the questionable reliability. There's a little mom & pop used car place down route 50 in Loudoun county that seems to specialize in them and I've stopped in from time to time. Pricey, rarely ever see a soft-top, and the thought of what repairs would cost would make me want a used (true) Hummer instead if I could afford an impractical unique off-road toy.
Still, nice to see them bring them back!

From a functional standpoint I have a feeling the new wrangler and defender are going to be quite similar. Somewhat long-travel 4-wheel independent unibodies. I think they'll be cool, but at that point I'd be seriously comparing them to side-by-sides.
The bigger question I have is the new 4Runner, and what's going to replace the FJ Cruiser (I know there's already a thread on this but it's related).. I think the most provoking scenario is if Toyota drops the 4Runner altogether and introduces rebadged 2-door and 4-door Prado's. That or we finally get the 70-series, it'd be the only solid axle'd SUV in America.

No way will Toyota sell the 70 series in the US.

Most likely no diesel in the US. Would be surprised by solid axle, but that would be cool.
Wrangler is suppose to get the Eco Diesel from the ram....
LR is just too dam expensive....

I had a 99 defender, that I paid 4500 euro for, but my wife would not let me put it on the boat, even after I showed her what they are worth in the U.S.. The thing rocked no bells just pure manliness, anything could be fixed with a wrench and a hammer.

THAT Concept Truck IS one freakin' ugly Defender. Why do people have to fix what's not broken? What's wrong with the classic look of the Defender?
