2020 4runner insurance

So no accidents/ tickets and 20+ yr dealing with same state farm agent. Had a 19 runner and traded for a 20. They said since its not yet listed they can only quote off msrp?
So my rate goes up $175 bucks for 6 months! I ask how is that possible, they said value of the car. I politely said BS because 6 months ago I had a 65k pickup truck and my rate never went up.
Sure usually goes up 5-10 bucks.
Any agents in house? are they pulling my chain
Anyone else have issues insuring a 2020? thanks

I'm in the insurance business and there is truth to what State Farm is telling you. Usually ins. companies rate vehicles based on symbols which represent many factors. When the vehicle is newly released, in most cases new model name the ins. companies do not have a symbol for it yet so they rate it based on msrp. Rating it based on msrp seems to always be at a higher rate. My suggestion is to shop State Farm, there are many good insurance companies and State Farm is not as competitive as they once were. I would suggest to shop for a better rate every few years anyway.

I've been a customer of for 20 years but recently switched. SF has been raising rates for no reason on my 2002 tacoma with 320k miles. nearly 30%. Eventually found another company and have been satisfied so far. My 6 month renewal was cheaper then my initial policy with this company.

I dropped State Farm like a sack of bricks two years ago. 30 years, one minor accident, no injuries 25 years ago. One 10 over speeding ticket 10 years ago. I also drive less than 7500 miles a year (mostly vacation) Have always maintained full coverage.

Bought used 3rd gen '99 4runner from and 89 hilux:
insurance went from $46 to $79 a month. Kept for 7 years,

Bought new 2013:
went from $81 to $89. okay
2 years later went for $81 to $94, hmm
another year later went from $94 to $106
1 year after that went from $106 to $127, called to them, asked why, household members (on completely different plans, one no longer living in our second domicile) local rates and some other nonsense. I was glad to leave in all honesty, the slow steady creep up and some other unscrupulous behavior. They would always send me my insurance rate breakdown, not but a month later I would receive a new bill with increased rates (yet no new line item), seriously what is up with that? They used to be good they have gone to the toilet IHMO.

moved to Metlife, same coverage, two years now at $65 a month.

An agent for 35 years before I retired. The " damage to your vehicle" portion of your policy is based mostly on the cost of your vehicle. A $70k vehicle costs more than a $50k vehicle. The only other factors are where you live and how you use you car, i.e. To & from work, pleasure, etc.
Did you have full coverage on your previous car? No reason for it to jump that much. State Farm is a good company and their rates are very stable. But it's smart to shop around every 3 or 4 years.
P.S. I was not a State Farm agent.

Progressive?

Anyone try progressive and have good luck? Had a chance to get quotes today, liberty mutual and farmers was higher than what I have. Progressive came in half what State Farm wants! Over the years I learned a bargain is not always a bargain!

A little late for ya, but here it is, maybe help someone else. :)

Have had Progressive for about 5 years or so on 4 vehicles and a 20 year old driver.
Just got the renewal a week ago and it went down 200 bucks for the year, but we qualify for all the discounts possible.
Buddy had an accident a year or so ago with them and they treated him like gold and went to mediation for him and won.

State Farm on the contrary was almost as sleazy a company as Allstate, I could tell horror stories that would constitute fraud if I pushed it.

State farm dropped the cost and ended up staying. Found out to shop services often and tell them your leaving

Always shop every year. There is no discount for staying with 1 company. Never pays to be loyal to an insurance company.

Progressive says they give a discount for staying , if one wants to believe that. :noidea:

But I did shop around this time and they were still the cheapest.
Perhaps why the gave me the $200 discount.
But in all fairness I have gotten a bit off every year, sure beats an increase.

Always shop every year. If you are with an insurance company for 20 years you're getting hose. Find an agency that represents multiple companies and let them shop. I rarely keep the same insurance company for more than 2 years.
