2020 spod/stec/switchpro/relay box position

Has anyone with a 2020 4runner installed any sort of relay box?

In the 2020 there's a fairly large factory relay/fuse box in the place where we usually install relay boxes/power tray. I assuming this new OEM box is due to the added TSS. The harness for this box is super short and there's not anywhere to really put it.

Where are all of you installing your relay box/bus system in the 2020's.

I ended up just mounting my stech relays on top of the current fuse box, but I don't really want to mount it there full time. Anyone have any other solutions?

I was looking at that over the weekend. I had more or less decided to mount anything I needed to the cover of the underhood fuse box and just leave enough slack to be able to remove that as needed.

I did the same thing in my 4th gen and to be honest, it was 100% OK. I don't think I ever needed to get into that underhood box more than once or twice in the years that I owned that truck.
 
I had a hard time deciding where to put it but just ended up putting it over top the new fuse box. I made my own relay box using the blank tray from powertrays.com. It was one of the most difficult things I have done to my vehicle. Trying to screw in the two screws into the sidewall was near impossible with that new fuse box. I hope I never have to get into that fuse box because I don't think I will be able to put the powertray back on, let alone remove it.
I also had to clip the little retaining/grounding piece off the bracket that holds it to the sidewall. I will try and post pictures. I'm new around here so sorry for any formatting issues.
I think if I would do it again I would find a way to put it on the other side of the engine compartment, but then I would be restricting myself from a second battery.

Thanks for the photos. I was looking to purchase the vertical power tray as well for my Switch Pros on my 2020 and found your post. Did you by chance contact Power Trays about this dilema? Is this what everyone else is doing for their mounting solution? I am hesitated to install over the top of the relocated relay box myself.

I was in constant contact with Maverick, which I believe is the owner. He eventually stopped replying to me, but he did offer me a refund. His solution was to mount it at the same location in the pictures, but due to how small of a space it would be I decided against it. There doesnt seem to be a solution to mounting it, unless some was makes a support beam in the center to hold the tray up, but even then that seems kinda sketchy.

I tried to relocate the relay box but even that barely moves, so it doesnt seem like there's an option to mount it with a tray. I hope someone makes one in the future, I will probably ask for a refund from PowerTrays (Maverick) once this Covid thing blows over.

If you are using a SwitchPro, you could consider deleting the fuse block altogether. It's not really required with how it was designed to operate.

Thats correct, the Fuse Block is not used in conjunction with the Switch-Pros... But sometimes people need to protect mods not run through it.

Here's what Spacebanana was talking about. Just got these in. Couple cables coming in this week.... ready to ship now without them.... PM me for more info

Would this work for the sPod too?
 
I understand the desire to do it yourself, the spod I’m looking at is like 850 or something but it literally has all the hookups and is super easy to install. Location would be on top of the fuse box. Hook positives to it, hook negatives to it. Built in fuses. No hassle.

I would imagine with a custom fuse box you could mount anywhere as long as you get a piece of metal cut to mount somewhere. A custom set up may not fit on top of the fuse box if you’re doing relays, which with the wires, take up a good bit of space.

Another option would be the trunk and mounting to molle panels. Avoid the engine bay all together.

The sPod needs to be connected to the battery, so you'd either have to run longer cables or make a whole different setup to run it in the back. I used the PowerTray for my sPod, that's a shame that it doesn't work on the 2020's because it was super convenient for me

Hook a spod to an aux battery and put it in the rear. I’ve considered it. The engine produces a lot of heat. I don’t want too many things in the engine bay.

I know plenty of people do it with no problems though. It’s just another option really.

If you're asking about the Mount tray, I do not think so. I may be able to work up something so it would, but I do not have the footprint nor needs that the SPOD needs to be attached and connected right now....

Mounting Solutions Needed ?

I received several PMs about this.... just putting it out there for discussion....

What is everyone's needs in this area ? What would you want to mount in that location that would benefit the community the most (other that what you see here)?
 
2020 4Runner Mount Tray

On Instagram, sdoffroadmt posted today a picture of their 2020 5th Gen Mount Tray that vertically mounts the Switch-Pros Power Module per their installation requirements for warranty retention. sdoffroadmt shows the Terminal Block setup.

I've messaged for a website to purchase from??? sdoffroadmt has no link in their bio... and Google only takes me to their Facebook page (no Link) and/or their Instagram page. More to follow...

Just message Derek via IG or here on the forums (he posted right above you) to purchase. The photo he posted is of my install. I will be helping a buddy install one today and will take photos and a write up in a separate thread.
