2020 TRD Pro Wheels/Tires/Lift Project Questions…..

I’m looking at making my 2020 TRDP a little more like I always envisioned it. That primarily includes bumping tires to 285/70/17, adding a small lift to accommodate those tires and hopefully just keeping the OEM wheels. I understand that is not optimal given the 285 wheel specs, but plenty have done that without issue. I also live in FL where 4x4ing doesn’t involve any real articulation. Think mud, beat up roads and trails and thats about it.

A while back I bought the Eibach TRDP lift kit. It seemed to get solid reviews, just haven’t had it installed yet, but it’s what i plan on using.

PRO-LIFT-KIT TRD PRO (Front & Rear Springs)

The tires will probably be some BFG flavor, KO2’s or maybe something slightly more aggressive. Open to other options, but used them on my 13 Trail and they seemed to work well.

Given the above, curious as to any thoughts about that set up.

I haven’t ruled out new wheels entirely. I’d much prefer to save the money and just keep the OEM wheels, but there are others that have caught my attention. I had FN wheels on my Trail and they were fine, no issues, and i liked the look. I’d probably angle towards something like them again. These were the wheels i had on the Trail….(Six shooters)

Those were a simple swap from the OEM wheels, given i don’t know much about how wheel specs affect fit/ride and so on. That “plug & play” fit would be great with my Pro.

If i were to go with new wheels, I’m a little apprehensive as the specs of various wheels would need to match up correctly for things to not be wonky in some way. That’s part of the reason i want to keep the OEM Pro wheels.

I have my eye on a few other brands, but how they’ll actually fit my Pro is tough to nail down with any real confidence or certainty. This always brings me back to stuffing 285’s on my OEM wheels, at least in part.

Anyone deal with this (I’m sure I’m far from the first) and any feedback on any aspect of this plan of mine?

You will have no problems with the TRD Pro wheel. I have 285/70-17 Wildpeaks in a SL rated tire. Nice, smooth ride and only weigh 51 lbs. I had BFG KO2's prior. I have had them down to 18-19psi for 130 miles off road for 3 days straight and other situations. I think Wildpeaks are better in rain and ice. Not sure about mud. Everything out this way is dry. Unfortunately

No. The Pro comes with the fender trim from the port and combined with the +4 offset, 7” Pro wheel you will not contact anything. I initially added a 1.5” front and 1” rear spacer to my Pro and never had any issues off road. You may have to do some minor lower fender trim and push the fender liner forward. An easy mod. I didn’t do anything. I even kept my mud flaps. Post up pics when it’s finished.
