It's shit for anyone shopping used market.

Use a different name, Toyota. Bunch of marketing idiots.

I'm guessing car will be $2-3k more than an SR5, and $2k less than Off-Road. They can market it as the Off-Road's baby brother to all the dummies who don't know.

There marketing is sound. It is meant to go to Soccer games, hang out in parking lots at Volleyball tournaments with food and drinks in the back for the team and parents and hit those torturous "trails" heading into the backcountry picnic area at your local state park. There are thousands of people out there in this market. I know, I spent 8 years going to volleyball tournament every other weekend. There was a lot of nice SUV out in the parking lots. I do not think more than 1 or 2 of them had ever been more than 8 feet off of a paved road. I personally do not understand the issue with the resale value. You have a 2020 TRD Pro in an "exclusive" color and put it up for sale and another guy has a 2021 Trail with the same exclusive paint both have 90,000 to 120,000 mile 5 or 8 years from now, you are going to get the resale value as a result of equipment, mileage, upkeep, etc, not the paint color. 5 years from now the only people I might run across regularly that would want an Army Green 4Runner would be at my National Guard Armory once a month; preferences change and are unpredictable. Buying a car for resale based on color in my opinion, not a real good idea. Buy because you personally like the color and you like the options on the car. The who cares what the color of the guy at the soccer or volleyball tournaments 4Runner is colored. Now if you plan to keep your vehicle 2 or 3 years the color could matter a little.
 
Maybe the "Trail" will not have a badge like the original 5th gen trails, then you can buy a TRD PRO badge and stick it on there and impress your friends.

TRD Sport

I laugh because I see people making comments about how PRO owners might be upset about the Cement/Army Green Colors now on the Trail.

Here I am loving my limited and thinking - i would love an army green limited with redwood lol.... hell do a nightshade and I think the colors would contrast nicely.

Green/Brown - very Land Rover esque.

Although i am sure people would be be triggered seeing that, but i need the 3rd row - so that removes the TRD PRO option for me.

Talking with my old Toyota manager buddy today and I told him they need a TRD SPORT. Seems a bit sacrilege - but toyota doesn't offer a sport oriented suv.

Give me the V8, 6/8 Speed Auto, and that Red interior from the GX, sport suspension, and bumpers from the pro and you have my perfect 4runner.

I live near the Buffalo River and can do some trails, but most of my off roading is property inspections down dirt roads. So i don't really need a pro.

I am sure true off roaders are rolling in their grave, but i have converted 3 family members in the last 6 months and they have bought a Limited, OffRoad, and PRO. Just find a match to what suits you.
 
How about a "Nightsight" version. Onc that has no incandescent bulbs and you can actually see down the freeway at night and see inside the interior.

It would make way more sense if they had just called it 'Adventure' like on the Rav4. Not sure why they needed to recycle an existing name?
 
I know right?? The limited has LED foot lights on the interior but everything else is incandescent - who decided that... Or my personal fave, you can buy LED foglight from Toyota, but ya know, not for the Low/Highbeam??

Always good to hear a counter point about land Rover/ Range Rover. I don't like that I have pre conceived notions of manufacturers, since any vehicle really could have issues as you mentioned.

Im gonna take a long hard look at the land rover defender once it comes out, it may check a lot of the boxes if Toyota doesn't get their act together with a next gen runner. Might be out of my price point to start, but maybe a year or two old in a couple years may be doable.

Wait, you have KO2s on your RRS? That’s awesome! I did follow up with the host of problems/replacement parts thrown at mine in less than 7k miles of ownership. Toyota officially threw in the towel on mine yesterday, so I’ll be going the legal path.

I like what JLR is doing between the F-pace, Disco and new Defender (obviously RRS). I may consider going in that direction if I give up on my Pro.

Yup! This thing is a beast in snow/slush/mud and off-road with proper tires on it!

I'd still give the ultimate nod to the 4Runner for off-road prowess though :)

I'd be wary of the new Defender since it's a new vehicle--it's bound to have issues that will get resolved in later years.

The current Range Rover/Range Rover Sport have proven to be more reliable than previous LR products. If you look at the rangerovers.net forums you'll see most of the reliability issues are around software for the InControl Duo Pro infotainment system, which is why I opted for the 2017 model which has the updated widescreen but still retains physical controls for most things.

Yeah, i agree first year new model is a bit dodgey, especially for a company that isn't firstly known reliability.

According to Land Rover, they will have a hybrid choice for engine, but the kind of hybrid that I like, focused on performance. But stupid expensive, pushing 60k sticker price.
 
This is so stupid.

I love Toyota more than the next guy, but man is this frustrating...

When I read the specs on the 2021 "Trail" I was genuinely mad. How is Toyota going to make a "Trail" edition 4Runner with: the same SR5 suspension since 2010, street tires, no hood scoop, some piece of crap Yakima basket, no mention of a locker? Jeep is catching Toyota with their pants down. Out the factory they have 285 AT's, lockers, FOX suspension, everything that Toyota doesn't. Why spend +$45k on a car that we all would remove the OEM parts and put aftermarket stuff on since Toyota can't get it right out the factory.

I'll stick to my 4th gen!
