22re Rebuild

So I'm just starting to piece back together my 22re and have a couple questions.

Should I no matter what replace all the timing chain parts including the timing chain cover? Or can I just reuse the same cover?

Should I replace the Oil pump or do those really need to be?

If they dont show signs of wear or they were not leaking you can reuse them. I just did mine and replaced the water pump since it looked a little rough. But I would replace the timing chain and go with HD guides.

If there's no wear on the cover, I don't see why you'd need to replace it. But definitely do the chain and guides. The oil pump is supposed to be a beeyotch to get to once everything is put together, I'd do it to.

You don't need to replace the cover if it isn't eaten up by the old chain. You should replace the chain, sprockets and tensioner though. New oil and water pump is cheap insurance.

I actually did buy a new chain and water pump and need to look at the cover for wear and tear. It's so covered in grease it's hard to tell right now. One more question. All the parts I've bought so far are Toyota parts. What does everybody think about buying "timing chain kits" off of Ebay like this one here?

Is it OK to buy parts like this or should I for sure go with Toyota parts?

Yea I hear ya. I figured as much. This is my first motor I've rebuilt so wasn't sure. I knew I needed to get a Toyota timing chain and all but just wasn't sure when it comes to parts like the timing cover or oil pump. I guess since it's all taken apart and it's kind of a big deal to tear it apart again, it's worth it to spend the extra money.

Check out ENGNBLDR.COM, ENGINE PARTS NETWORK for parts. I got my rebuild kit, oil pump, water pump, steel backed timing chain kit, 268 cam and a brand new head from him. They have excellent parts and the best customer service of any other parts place I have heard of.
