231mm AFTERMARKET Brake Rotors

We'll believe it or not after a few years of driving, towing, stopping, and crawling my T4R's 231mm upgraded 13WL brake rotors and pads are ready to be replaced. I keep eyeing the DBA DBA47420XS rotors, they are sexy and well likely not practical but they are good looking. DBA doesn't offer an offroad caliper for the Tundra/ Sequoia so that option is out. The factory rotors stop just fine but I was thinking, and that leads to spending...... There is a package on ebay that includes Brembo rotors and pads for a 2005 Sequoia (same as 231mm or 13WL ROTOR). For $165 shipped, I paid just over that for all OE Stuff for my Sequoia brake job.

Thoughts

Side note, the ih8mud guys run the DBA SLOTTED CROSS DRILLED rotors and report cracking in the hole, but their rigs are substantially heavier than the 3rd gem T4R?.....

Not sure what you're asking exactly. Are you asking if it's worth getting OEM stuff as opposed to the eBay package? If it's only marginally more, then sure. That being said, I got Raybestos rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet pads for less than $100 and they work well. How many miles did your OEM set last you? I feel like rotors are important enough of a part to spend more $$$ on if you got the dough.

As far as the cross drilled rotors, I feel like I see a lot of posts where people say they crack. Not sure what the real data on that is though.
 
I didn't do a very good job of sorting that post out did I? I guess I'll go OEM again joules be just shy of $200. Mileage .....couldn't say it's been a few years and they are worn down to nearly the pad bonding surface.
 
I had (notice I said had) Brembo rotors on my Tundra,can't believe I wasted the extra $ on Mexican-made rotors. The quality wasn't any better than Chinese-made parts store rotors that were half the price.
 
I think I saw that same Brembo package on eBay, but it looked a little fishy to me. Seemed a little too good to be true for the price.. but I don't really know anything about brakes.

I just bought the 231 calipers at a yard after researching on these threads and am looking for some brake pads and rotors to go with them too—I'm not agains stock pads and rotors, but I've heard good things about Brembo, so for the rotor I was planning to go with the flat Brembo rotors, but I need some input on the pads.

I've been hearing that the Wagner ThermoQuiets are good, but I also heard that the Akebonos are not bad either. The ratings on Amazon for both are kind of here and there.

Anyone have any experience with those? I see Kanger328 said he has used the Wagners—did you like them?

I really want brakes that perform well, but at the same time I have pads now that dust/squeak like nuts and it drives me crazy. 1 day after a wash and my front wheels are already caked. So I would prefer brakes that don't dust as much, but again, I don't want to sacrifice too much performance.

And thanks in advance for any input. Been trying to research this all day, but I've just been getting hit and miss accounts on various sites. Trying to figure this out so I can hopefully get this all installed sometime next week.:thumb:
 
I've been buying a lot of parts from Village Toyota Parts as the pricing reflects a commercial discount (I set up with local dealership). Ill price the brakes there again before buying.

The OE stuff is good, dust
more than I like but tag the brakes with no seatbelt on and your in the dash.
 
I'm pretty happy with my Wagner brake discs from Advance Auto. If they ever warp then I can exchange them for a new set without hassle. I'm think they were US made.

That's a fact I neglected to consider, the lifetime pads and rotors from Autozone.....yea that may be the best way To go.
 
The Ceramic Thermoquiets are good. I run them on many cars I look after for the family and friends. The only knock against them is that the grey coating for the backing surface, not the pad itself, may tend to peel if run through lots of water, salt water especially. But it doesn't happen to all, just some. The Akebonos are quite good. I run Hawks and wish I didn't. They squeal and dust up like a hornet's nest but on the bright side they stop well.
