Inspired by your thread, I am planning to pick up some of these FJ wheels in the next few days. I was previously thinking about the 7 spoke TEP wheels, but I really like these 6 spoke FJ wheels too. I will almost certainly pair with 265/70R17 KO2 tires rather than the skinny tall ones.

The 255 really isn't that skinny... its actually prefect IMO.

Now that ive actually had a chance to use them... much rather have a 255/75-17 than a 265/70-17.

Not only it is a bigger diameter tire, they do better off-road since you actually ends up increasing traction.

Its a bit counter intuitive but you actually get more pounds per square inch with less contact patch as your are distributing that weight over a smaller surface area., which ends up giving you more bite.

The only place this doesn't work out well is in deep sand as its all about flotation.

Either way, KO2 is an awesome tire.

Those are nice wheels, but I am partial to my tundra/sequoia wheels . Either way it's nice to push the track width out a little wider! Currently running the 255/80r17 km2. Along with studded 265/75r16 winter tires on the original sr5 wheels.

I'm with you on the 255 80s 17s. Love mine.

255 is a great choice in width.

You're right, thanks for the rationale. It's only a 1cm difference in width anyway.

So I decided that I wanted KO2 in a C load rating for weight and ride reason (and not about to change my mind on that). Then 265/70/17 is the only option available - I think this particular KO2 size/rating was done as a special for Jeeps. If I didn't have that constraint I probably would just stick with my 16" wheels.

Here is a 255/75-17 BFG KM Mud MT on a FJ Rim.

Sorry for the missing bumper... I am working on the trucks lighting and electrical but here is the stance and view from the front.

So far so good, I haven't taken them off road yet, but on road manner is a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

Interesting, thanks - somehow I had not noticed that option before. It comes down to a half an inch of height versus half an inch of width. For my purposes I don't think it would make any real difference either way.

So I went ahead with the 265/70/17 choice anyway. I'm happy with how it turned out. I think these FJ wheels are great for this "vintage" 4th Gen 4Runner. OEM look, better than stock, cheap too, and they have dimples!

was that my hankook 255/75/17 atms have a 44psi max pressure. Dang, thats a lot of air man

While I haven't hit the dunes, my 255/75 dynapros do fine in deep sand out here in the So cal desert. Just air em down is all and keep up some speed.

On my 255/75-17 mud terrains I run 32 front and 30 rear on pavement.

I came to that conclusion after a friend told me it looks like the rears were crowning a little at 35 PSI.

I ended up taking a paint pen and marking a line on the tire, and lowered the PSI until it started to wear evenly.

Off road, I haven't tested it yet but ill probably be in the mid teens and adjust accordingly.

I have em at around 30-32 PSI as well I believe, speaking of... I need to go do the regular check to make sure they are even! they are P rated

I never air down muhaha! No seriously for whatever reason the runner with the 255 dynapros is working great and ATRAC keeps me going on nasty shtuff. Pick my lines carefully and keep my speed through sand.:car:
