255/85/16 or 285/75/16

IIRC, 255/85's are only available in MT's (no AT's). Not sure if that will sway your decision, since you said you're more worried about ON road performance.

Actually there is one 255/85/16 AT tire available that I know, That would be the cooper ST. There might be others but did not search to see.

255/65/16 will not fit under a stock 99' sr5 no lift correct?

Old thread lol. Yeah they'll fit just fine. I ran 265/65/16's stock just fine.

255/85/16s will not fit without a lift and fender trimming/cutting. You can get by driving on road without trimming, but they will rub a lot off road without. I have 4" of lift, have trimmed a lot on my fenders and I can still rub here and there off road with 255s.

You CAN fit these without a lift, but lots of trimming required.
