I apologize if this issue has been addressed before. I've searched all over and was unable to find a satisfactory answer to my question. I've just purchased a '99 4Runner SR5 that has 265/70/16 tires fitted on 15" rims. I'm not entirely sure how this is possible, but what I'd like to know if this setup is safe or should I change the rims to a 16" size. Thank you for your help.

I agree! The 15" is the diameter of the center of the tire.....should be impossible to mount those tires on that small of a rim.....unless the rim is bigger than you think???

He's probably confused since some of the factory 15" rims look identical to some of the factory 16's. I've never seen a tire made for a 16 put on a 15" wheel but would highly doubt it could inflate.
You are absolutely right. This thread is an abomination. I don't know where I was looking but I misread the wheel size while listening to the seller telling me it was a 15" rim and didn't bother to double check. For a week I was walking around trying to figure out how this would be possible, and it most certainly isn't. Please delete this thread as I'm deeply ashamed and embarrassed. Thank you.
