265/70/17 Duratracs or Trail Grapplers

Alright guys, help me pull the trigger..

I'm leaning towards the Trail Grapplers but may settle for the Duratracs.

Most of my driving is on road around (90%) It rains damn near everyday in this part of the country and I'm worried about traction with the Trail Grapplers. I have read dang near every thread on these two tires on our forum and many others. Anyone run the Trail G in wet conditions more then average? From the reviews that I can find there really are no complaints with the TG in rain. Although I guess they break free easy even on dry pavement? I read that in several different places. Your thoughts are appreciated!

Will both of these tires in the 265/70/17 size fit a stock 2004 sport edition? Discount tire says both will with minimal trimming and they will do the trimming If I want them to.. I have no problem trimming or removing the mud flaps or any other small modification that needs to be done. I would prefer not to run spidertrax, but I will.. Chopping the body mount is out of the question for me.

When the Xreas fails I will put a 3 inch toyotec lift on followed by 33's. I'm at 95k so it shouldn't be too much longer. In the mean time I need some new meats!

If these tires were your choices which ones would you get? The Trail Grapplers are just way more sexier then the Duratracs,IMO. Overall for my use I'm thinking the Duratracs are more realistic though.

I'm not real concerned about noise or MPG. Performance, durability, longevity, and aesthetics are my main concerns.

Any thoughts, advice, pictures in this size would be greatly appreciated. When I get the tires on I'll post pictures for sure. Thanks for your time fellas.

Here's some pics of my '03 Sport with the exact Duratrac's you're looking at. I've had them on now for about 3 weeks and absolutely LOVE them. They balanced well and are actually pretty quiet on the highway.

I've got a Truxxx 3"/1.5" spacer kit installed and have removed the front mud flaps and relocated the front inner fender-liner (just for some extra room). There's also plenty of clearance for the UCA and I have no rubbing at all, even at full lock.

Not 100% sure how these would fit on a stock setup. Worst case though is you'd need to install a spacer lift which is a piece of cake. No need for Spidertrax, at least from a fit perspective.

Right on brother wish you were here a month ago..or it looks like you were but must not have been around.. How in the hell do you have an 03 join date with 3 posts? Just curious I went with the Duratracs and ran them on my stock suspension for a few days until I installed the DS 2.5/1.5 spacer lift. I appreciate the feedback and the pictures for sure. Grandpa Roy dug this post up from June.. Roy, check the tires out for sure brother I'm sold..I'll put another set on when these wear out..

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers but if I was to choose between those two tires I would go with the GY Duratracs. I have seen very good reviews on these and since you do most of your driving on road they have better road manners than the Trail Grappler. I am thinking about selling my Terra Grapplers and going with the Duratrac.

It is so funny that this thread got resurrected. I have another tab open to the discount tire site and I am looking at Duratracs....LMAO Although I am gonna get big boy tires..hehe 285/70 or 275 if there is a body mount issue.

I have been through 2 sets of Goodyear Fortera 265's. I never had any size issues until I put the Spidertrax on. Even then it is just the very tip of the front mudflaps.

Look at the Kelly Safari TSR as well. It's more agressive than the duratrac, not loud at all, and a bit cheaper even though it's made by Goodyear:

The Kelly Safari TSR tires are sick no doubt. I would like to have put 285's (Big Boy Tires) on but not having a spare that could mount underneath was the deal breaker for me right now. When Xreas fails I will take my budget daystar lift off and put the 3' Toyotec lift on and 285's hopefully by then I have a new car for moma to drive and trunk space wont matter.. I have already started the Toyotec fund.. The Duratracs are a sick A$$ tire and I love them for the money. The Trail Grapplers are just bad A$$ though, but much heavier and more expensive. Here are a few pictures of the duratracs mounted on stock suspension and then with the budget lift..

Here's a picture or two of when the rack was off while I was painting it and after..added 20% to the front in these pictures as well..

LOL, no doubt. "Yo, Devon!" That's one of my all time favorites man!!

You could probably get a 285 underneath if you used a ratchet strap and ran it flat.. You would need a air compressor though.. I would have just put the damn 33' on the roof once I get a new rack but it wouldn't fit in the garage. I have about 5 inches right now and with a rack I would just fit, add a 12' tire on top of that and the truck would have to live outside and in this part of the country that means a lot of weather..

E-Man, Addict, your Toys are looking hot! Those tires look nice. I landed up going with Pro Comp Muds. 4 Wheel Parts is having a special, buy 3 and get one free. And it turns out I got a hook up there, so I spent a little more, or should I say, less, for them. Jacking up tomorrow. Pics coming soon after.

Getting them mounted today, pics in a bit. What needs trimming exactly?


Now considering sliders and some Bud Built under body protection. Which sliders do you like and why? What about other products besides Bud Built?

It might be a bit early to announce the data, but I bought the Duratracs on August 2 and it appears I'm getting 16.7 miles per gallon after a tank. :jaw drop:

I was getting over 19 after I installed the K&N. Obviously, I didn't drive much last month, so I'll check in after another month.

Another observation...they don't look quiet, but they are!

I know you said you tinted the front @ 20%, did you tint the back too?
