265/70r16 or 245/75r16 Any thoughts?

I just got my black TT FJ wheels in and I've been shopping for tires. I've got a 2002 Thundercloud, 2wd, Sport and I'm going with an AT tire. I think, I've got my mind made up on the Hankook Dynapro ATMs. However, I can't make my mind up on the size.

The OD is almost identical, 30.5" (245) and 30.6" (265). The 245s are significantly lighter at 35.2 lbs vs the 37.8 lb 265s.

With the 245's being lighter and having a little less contact patch, I would hope to see a little bump in the MPGs. As of right now, this is my DD and any better fuel economy would help the wallet. However, I don't want to run the 245s if there is a risk of looking stupid or sacrificing ride quality.

Any thoughts or opinions on the setup?

BTW, TRD TT wheels weigh 25 lbs 10 oz. I couldn't find this info online.

265/70 all day unless you are a stock 2wd. I am really happy with that size, it works fine on the beach, and I'm sure I could hit some mild trails without too much issue. I have been looking at some mud-terrains in 265/70/16 and that seems to be the best compromise between fuel economy, road manners, and overall cost.

Yeah I got a stock 2wd and intend to keep it that way, for now at least.

Yep, 245/75-16 DuraTrac's have been fine for me. They've been on for several months now.

As has been discussed, it is a much lighter tire, OD matches the original tire (265/70), it works well on the road and on the dirt.

Hey fellas not to sound like a noob, but I also have a 2wd Runner. I got mine on 31-10.50-15s. What im wondering is would it be better to get the 245-70s and ditch the 31s for better gas milage and over-all use??

Narrow tires give less friction and less stability but good gas mileage. Try to use deep dish wheels to extend the wheel base.

How many miles are you trying to gain by switching to narrow tires? I like to know. With the present day gas prices I feel like getting 175's to my 4runner!

I use a 4 cylinder car to go to work/shopping... and 4runner for other activities.
