275 sticker shock!

Went to look at tires today. Was surprised that 275 are more than 285's. Not going to do much lift just 5100's at .85 and maybe fj springs. I think 285's would be to stuffed so was looking at the 275's. My tire guy wants 75 more a tire than 265's.

For the guys that have done 275's have you found its worth it over just doing more aggressive 265's? Looks like only +- half inch diff.

I only went with 275 because that is the only size currently made in the tire I wanted the new BFG KO2 all terrain. I really only wanted a 265 but they will not be available till March. I am happy with the 275 size so far. Total out the door price was $1059 mounted and balanced. My local Toyota dealer was the cheapest price in my town, even better than discount tire etc. It will be under $1000 once my $70 BFG rebate comes in if it ever does.

265 are negligibly smaller but lighter as most 17" 275s are E rated

Hi Bruce,

I really wanted to stuff as much rubber under there as it could take... here's an example of a '275/55' all weather tire; the "Good*Year" 'Eagle LS-2' 275/55... (Stock rim/No lift)! This is a HUGH difference over stock; particularly on the highway @High Speeds and on sharp curves (having 20" rims didn't hurt that a bit!). These tires keep the truck planted on the asphalt and that body/frame chassis prove extremely stable and true! I paid about $760.00 for all four tires w/ mounting/balancing included, plus an $80.00 dollar rebate from GdYr is still available!

I have the same suspension setup and went with Goodyear duratracs in 265. Surprisingly they are about a 1/2" bigger than the stock tires and completely change the look of the truck.

I went 275 ko2 for a few reasons with a 8.5 wheel.
If there was a 275 c rated tire I would have gone that route.
If there was a 265 c rated tire- even more weight savings but I still would go with the 275's just because I like a bulky tire.

As everyone has said before: huge difference from the stock dunlops!

Oops.should have clarified. Yes, I know they have them- I was referring to the BFG KO2 availability at the time I bought them.

I'm also considering 255/75-17 also just a tad taller than stock but like the 275's they are more. 60 or so more a tire.

The 265 and 285 must be the sweet spot price wise. What are thoughts on the 255/75-17's sounds like I can get Revo 2's in that size which is the tire I'm leaning towards.

The shop I want to use is a Bridgestone/Firestone and BF dealer so I'm some what limited on brands.

I'm going with a 265/70/17 BFG AT KO because I want a C rated tire....I have load range E BFGs on my tacoma and they are very stiff...I feel very crack in the road. I also wanted to stay with 265 because unless you plan on lifting (which I dont) anything bigger then 265 looks STUFFED into the wheel well. Must my 2 cents.

I do like the looks of the 275's though. Maybe I shouldn't be such a tight azz!

LOL...that's what I was thinking back when I was deciding...then I realized I just spent $37,000 on a NEW vehicle-what is another $200??? :loco:

I was thinking about the KO2 but ended up with Cooper AT3 285 instead. I don't think you can go wrong with either. KO2's were very hard to find in stock.
I had REVO 2 on but i like the AT3 a better so far.
Good luck finding them in stock at a decent price.

personally I would go 285 with a 2014/15 bodystyle. I think 265s look way too small on them

I thought about it. Rolled one out to it and man I think it would way full without doing more lift than I'm planing.

What do you guys think of 255/75/17's. Same hight as 275's but a little narrower.

My tires

I'll add my two cents, I took the 20'' wheels off and added the TRD Pro wheels and wanted a good AT tire. I looked at a bunch but finally decided on the BFG KO2's 275/70r17's. So far I've put some serious highway miles on them and they are great. Smooth and very quiet. Here is a picture.
