2nd Battery Install

I have a 2005 SE V6; I'm looking to add a second battery for sound system reasons, I'd like to know if anyone's successfully installed one on the opposite side of where the original battery lives.

I don't want to place it anywhere but in there. Seems like there is a fair amount of room on the side closest to the firewall, just on the other side of the wheel well.

i dont know how much power you need, but it might be easier too if you used a motorcycle battery, since your using it just for sound. ive used em for small hobby rc projects, but i havnt installed one on the 4r.

Yeah I was thinking about that too, dual optimas is my preference. Already runnin a Red Top.

I'll need to support 2200 watts.

theres a member on here by the name of THe_josh he's got a dual optima setup look him up i think he's done a write up if not im sure he'll get you the info you need
 
Yup, The_Josh was the first name that came to my mind but there are actually quite a few members with dual battery set-ups.

I know I have seen the dual battery mod done before here...I am not finding it in search but maybe you will have better luck.

I would look at upgrading the Alternator and adding a capacitor to match the output you are looking for... just a thought!
 
If you relocate the battery to the opposite side behind the passenger headlight, you need to relocate that reservoir.

The best location that I have found is to relocate it to the passenger side, next to the firewall.

Dirtyparts.com sells a custom battery mount that fits in there.

Look up a member named Dawg4Runner, his name is Dawgrunner on toyota120 I think. He has the nicest dual battery set up I've seen.

I hear Capacitors do ZERO for sound systems, and are borderline gimmiky- I plan to do "The Big Three" upgrade. Zero gauge wire replacement for the wire from the alternator to the battery- The ground wire to the engine block from the battery and the batter to the chassis. These three upgrades will SIGNIFICANTLY increase the electrical system charge to your aftermarket components.

I imagine I can do it for ALOT cheaper than this. Tsunami Big 3 Kit Sonic Exclusive Big 3 Upgrade 1/0 Combo Package

I finished my dual battery mod a couple months ago and so far its been great. There are some great kits out there like the dirty parts kit mentioned above, you will save yourself a lot of time and effort going with one of those options. I pieced mine together myself and am very happy with the results. I saved some money going this route, added to my tool collection and learned some things but it was a chore putting it all together and making sure I had everything I needed to complete it once I began. i run dual batteries myself too, group 31 diehard plat in the trunk, although i didnt use an isolator in my install, i just hook it up dirrectly to my front battery oddy pc1700mjt. i think either hook up is fine.

I have to agree that this will probably make a bigger difference than my idea!
