2nd gen engine and tranny swap

Hello everyone,
I am planning to rebuild the V6 engine on my 1990 4runner.

I love the 4runner but hate how slow it accelerates and how slow it is when towing even a light trailer.

My question is; is there an automatic tranny I can use from a different gen 4runner that will solve my two issues?

If you require additional info please let me know and I appreciate any and all help.

From reading other discussions I have become interested in replacing the 3.0 with a 3.4. I have read in other discussions that I have to remove and add new motor mounts and that the swap can be a bit difficult.

I believe I can use the same tranny.


I'm not a mechanic so I will try to get as much information as possible before I decide to do it or not.

I've been searching other discussions that have dealt with the idea of putting a 3.4 in my 90runner.

What is the best way to search for the discussions on the swap needs and maybe pictures and steps? I have been going page-by-page and its not too efficient.

I would look on yota tech.

I've seen some more in depth how-to type posts there.

Just a few I grabbed.

I also remember there being a swap bible thread somewhere. Or maybe I'm thinking of auto to manual swap since that's my current plan...
