2nd gen sliders.

Hi all. I ordered my 4xi sliders and they should be here within the week. I want to weld them on myself but I have a few questions first....

1) what type of welder should I use. I have a flux cores wire feed at home and access to a mig and stick at my tech school, however they will not let me weld directly to the truck for safety reasons. I suppose my question is once I assemble them (with the mig at school more than likely) will a flux cored wire feed weld hold up to the abuse that the sliders are supposed to handle?

2) on my 94 the frame goes inward toward the front of the car. So the only flat level place I have to mount the support beams is the back 2~3 ft of the side of the frame. If somebody with a 2nd gen could post up a picture of their slider location that would be great!

It really depends on your welding ability and what kind of fluxcore welder you have. A harbor Freight 40 Amp probably wouldnt cut it, but my Hobart Handler uses flux core and Ive welded sliders to my truck before using fluxcore. Its now setup for gas though.

The sliders aren't already welded together? If not then be very careful assembling them without them being clamped to the vehicle or a mock frame. If you weld too hot or do not let the metal cool down then will warp and you'll have a hell of a time getting them to mount square on the frame. As for the flux, as long as the materials are clean then it should do. Flux will weld and penetrate fine but there will be plenty of splatter.

I don't remember the measurements off the top of my head when [MENTION=75090]Footofgod[/MENTION] and I built sliders for his 4runner. Maybe he can take a few measurements and send them your way and send you some pics. One part that I do remember is the front post is on the frame that angles in. I used an 80* cut on the front legs so that I can weld a support closer to the front of the sliders where they are likely to take the biggest impact.

You dont want them hanging down below the frame like above. You want full contact on the frame. And Plate your frame where the toob attaches.
