Is this a bolt on? or does it need to be welded?

Brackets bolt up perfect on the frame but the bumper itself needs to be welded to the brackets.

Here are the instructions they sent me which for the most part you don't really need but it does give you some insight on their plan. Once you get under there it's kind of obvious what you need to do.

1986 to 1995
1) Remove and discard existing bumper and mounting hardware.

2) Loosely bolt the left and right mountingbrackets to the frame of the truck.
Some chassis have a mounting hole in thebottom of the frame that corresponds
with a 1/2” hole in the mounting bracket.
If it is not present, this hole will need to
be cut after the bumper is installed. The rearmost hole of the mounting bracket uses the 3.5” long bolt. It passes through both sides ofthe frame and comes out inside the rear cross member. Use a lock nut with this bolt anddo not over tighten so that the frame is squished. The other two side holes and the bottomhole use the 1.5” long bolts and can be reached inside the frame as it opens towards theend.

3) Using a floor jack position the bumper. Make sure to leave enough room for
the tailgate to be lowered and for the tire carrier to be installed into or onto the
hinge assembly. Once in position use 4 “C” clamps to secure the mounting
brackets on the bumper to those attached to the truck frame.

4) Tighten the bolts attaching the mounting brackets to the truck frame.

5) Weld together the mounting brackets and the bumper mounting brackets.
Remove the jack and coat the welds with paint or undercoating.

6) If you’re bumper is equipped with the optional full wrap around wings or you
have the 1990 - 1995 series, reinforcement bars can be welded from the wings
to the mounting brackets.

7) Place the hinge sleeve over the stub. Install the top bearing and tighten the
nut until snug and no wobble is present. Install the cotter pin and grease cap.

Hmm. More welding than I would have expected.
As I do not have a welder, I would have been pissed. I was under the impression this was a bolt on.
Still, the finish product is cool.

Thank you Mario, mpleitez on here. He gave me a great deal on his used OEM rear bumper and hitch. Was patient with my timing and shipped it promptly. Just got the hitch and the first big box today. I am psyched.

It's stuff like this, and guys like Mario that make the internet the coolest invention in history, and 4Runners the best truck in the world.

Now I just need to attack some rust...

Thanks :iagree: ...To return the compliment shipping was a bit more than we both expected.:ybrick::wow:..I asked Charlie to split the rest of the cost of the shipping... i sent it anyway even if i had to eat the cost of shipping me thinking he wouldn't want to because OEM bumpers aren't a high demand item; to my surprise he offered to cover it for my troubles and me thinking the same thing I'm just helping out another fella with a runner.
