Your right they do look nice... the 31's...
As far as i can tell, there all right, they will rub the wheel well's a bit when your hard over on the steering, my brother has 31's on his 93, told me his does that.

Ya the more i look at the 31's the more i want to get them installed my 94
n8buddy is correct. 31 10.5x15 was an option on the v6 4wd and part of the Limited package, atleast for '95 when I got mine and probably years before that. I still have my sales brochure when I was looking at them - I had to take a look at that.
I upped that to 32s when I did my first tire change at close to 50k. Can't say for sure how that affected my mileage as I never did a comparison. The larger tires just fill the wheel well better.

In my manual it say's the V6 version for 1994
comes with 31 10.5x15 tires.
I was over my buddy's house today, he has 31's on his.
They look good.

P225/75R15 was the stock tire for most 1st and 2nd gens. However, many 2nd gens came with 31x10.50-15 from the dealer. BFG MT's and AT's are very popular because they come in 33x10.50-15 and 33x9.5-15 (AT only), which should give you no trouble at all on a 1st or 2nd gen. TONS of people are running these tires with no lift, no rub.
I have 34x9.50-15 TSL's for trail driving. No rub.
My next set of daily driver (DD) tires will be 31x10.50's.

The tires size you can run is determined by what gear you have......
Most Toys sold in the US have 4.10 axle gearing, but this isn't always the case. Four cylinder models with auto trannies often have 4.30 gearing, (4.87 if they came factory-equipped with 31" tires). All V6's with 31" tires and 4-cylinder manuals with 31" tires usually had 4.56 gears. And still others have been changed by their owners, to move oversized tires.
One way of determining your axle type and stock gearing is to look for an Information Plate on your truck, on the firewall (prior to 1989) or door jamb (1989-current). It will look something like this:
C/TR/A/TM 138 HR11 G282 A130H or C/TR GJ7/KQ41 A/TM G251/R150F
These numbers are the Color (paint) code, Trim Code, Axle Code, and Transmission Code. You will also need to check the first few digits of you VIN #.
The first position of the Axle Code is a letter which identifies the diameter of the ring gear. Toyota trucks and 4Runners have always used the 7.5" and 8" diameters.............

Not necessarily,...obviously it is advantageous to regear with any tire combo larger than stock, but ask around and you'll find plenty of people who are running 33's and 35's on stock 4.10's in their 4cyl/5spd. I'm sure you could even run 38's on 4.10's, (as long as you don't get out of 2nd gear
