2wd to 4wd conversion with inchworm gear crawlerbox

HAHAHA I want to see this!

shitty SAS trucks have a 60:1 crawl ratio, ill have a 90:1 with single case and a 220:1 with duals,

and with the slower slip speed i wont break CVs with manual hubs, as much as auto and ADD

and ill be glad to show you, go get an SASed taco or 2nd gen 4runner, ill walk through.

oh and one more thing, budget SAS trucks dont have cromo fronts, that means with wheel speed they will break, i wont need the wheel speed as I'll have the super low gearing

only thing they will ever have on me is clearance and flex.

I like how u only mention shitty or budget SAS rigs. Too bad you are out east. Come out to California and prove me wrong.

thats even easier, no wheel spin at all, with your dry freakin rocks.

i mentioned Shitty SAS rigs int he first place, then you say i laugh when i see that.

i didnt say "all" SAS rigs. dude seriously read or sierra tango foxtrot uniform.

and btw have you ever even driven an SASed rig?

I have driven 10 different rigs, and 2 of them were actually 85 4runners with stock axles with added 30 spline longs.

Easier huh? Actions speak louder than words. Ha! Bring it on guy. This thread can go on forever. Yes I have driven an SASed rig before but not as many as u. You win. Plus converting a 2WD to a 4WD is awesome. But me personally I would of bought a 4WD in the first place. Does that make u feel better?

im sure actions do speak louder then words, but if you do realize, 80% of the SASed community solid axled a taco, 4runner that only had a rear locker, was never even wheeled hard enough to even consider getting a SFA,

to be honest lets keep the 2wd4wd tech here and the babble elsewhere.

I personally can't wait to see how this works, and I know you're pretty pumped because you get to actually drive it! When you getting it back? Cause we're gonna need pics and videos... I've really enjoyed watching your rig come around... I wish I could get my lift and new tires and all that hooked up and ready to go... Just moved in to college right now, so money is a lillte slim... Very clean rig neliconcept.... Kudos to you- many kudos...

woops sorry, its done i forgot to say that

i have been driving it already. low range is so freakin low, that it drives itself right through the brakes.

so freakin awesome

ill get pics of the center console area soon

Doesn't really matter if your crawl ratio is 20:1 or 200:1, when those front CVs bind up, they will break. Just so long as you stay reasonable with the tire size and the stupid pedal, you should be fine...

However, keeping a tire size that's reasonable for IFS kinda defeats the purpose for the 200:1 crawl ratio... just means you'll crawl up the curb at the mall a bit slower than everyone else.

All other shit aside, it looks like a cool project... one I've considered myself...

true with the binding, but with driving skills, that can be defeated plus with manual hubs it actually creates more strength at the hub, but the inners can be blown as well.

i know this thread is completley dead but i wanna know if anyone knows if he got a shop to do this and if he would get online i would want to know how much intsal was roughly

Just called him he didn't pick up. That's a very picky job no shops going to do it out of the box, you're going to have to do the research yourself and come to a shop with a lot of planning out of the way and hope they have the skills to complete it. price was expensive you're looking at 1500 depending on the method by which you source your parts and how closely you're following this build (gearing, crawlbox, etc)

thanks for the help..... i might wait oh say 7 to 10 more years and see if there is a sas kit out like 2nd gens then ill convert it to 4wd he he :)

Sorry it's been years since I've been on here.

Transmission just needs to have the driveshaft cut to mate up with the adapter and T-case from Inchworm. That is for the newer 3rd gens with the different transmissions.

Better off sourcing a 4wd truck however. I no longer have my 4runner btw.
