3.4 Coolant bypass hose foam...?

During my engine re-gasket I came across deteriorated foam around the coolant bypass hose back plate - where the plate fills the void between the block, heads, and lower intake.

I called Toyota and they don't list the gasket/foam separately. The full gasket kit I have didn't come with it either.

Toyota wanted $95 for this bypass hose with the foam and I can't justify that price when the hose itself is fine.

What have others done/used? It's too big a gap for RTV...

That's just a dust cover/seal... use whatever you feel is appropriate.

Right... just trying to find d what others have used.

Most foams readily available are rated up to 150c, or about 300f. That should be fine, but... I tend to prefer over the top.

Thinking maybe some fiberglass rope meant as a stove door gasket.

the only pain is going to be cleaning everything off, it's just self adhesive and things need to be clean else no sticky.

If Toyota had found that I would have absolutely ordered it.

Friend came over with an almost foam like seal for fireplaces and a high temp rtv. It's already curing.

3.4 coolant bypass heatshield/dust cover

Hello all,

New member here yet longtime follower of the site.

Going off of the original post I am replacing my 5vz-fe coolant bypass pipe (16268-62060)and the replacement I received from Toyota "Partznet.com" does not have the heatshield/dustcover the OP was discussing concerning the foam. Has anyone else come across this with a new bypass pipe? Did Toyota deem this piece negligible and have since opted not to put it on or did I get an incomplete assembly?
