3.4 swap advice. Please help

Hello all - I'm on the wrong side of the tracks. Please don't yell at me, just looking for some quick advice and tips on my situation.
I have a totalled out '96 with 127k. Gonna be stripping it down soon. Most of the goodies are going on my replacement '98. I have a long time friend in CO who I promised the motor to. His toy is an '88 with the 3.0. It's got all sorts of mods and accessories. He's a quite capable mechanic and welder. We're doing research on the process of the swap, but live 600 miles away and I've never pulled an engine. I'll be doing this at my buddy's garage here in Omaha but will have a fairly short time frame that my wrecked truck can be there.
All I'm asking is for is experience for little things I need to pull or do to make this easier for my CO friend. I'm quite familiar with my 3rd gen stuff, not so much on a 1st gen, much less any little details on an engine swap. Any little details or PIA's I should be aware of on my end (as far as removal of necessary pieces and parts)? He'll be driving his Tacoma down here to get the engine and whatever else after my wrecked truck is sent to scrap so I just want to make sure I get everything needed for the swap that I can.
I already sent some thread links to him as well as he has been doing his own research. The actual installation is on him. I just want to do everything I can to help.

It's not a possible swap. There isn't really a whole lot of info out there on that swap. Most people swap in the 7vz which is the newer v7 motor.

If you do it, you'll have to swap motor, trans, t-case. Be sure that the front diff is on the correct side, but I don't think it is.

Um can you elaborate? I am honestly a little bit confused by this statement. Maybe you mean 5vz? Even then Im not sure why the swap wouldnt work.

In anycase, I have done quite a bit of researching into the subject myself going from a 3.0 to a 3.4 5VZ and from what I can tell its suppose to be a pretty straight forward swap.

The bolt pattern for the trans is suppose to be the same. Only issues I am aware of is hood clearence which was fixed by bodylift or custom hood. For wiring harness you will need to do a lot of splicing or a harness could be purchased from ORS:

Oil pan should be off his existing 3.0 or if its a SAS use a T100 pan.

Basically I think all he really needs is the engine itself, wiring harness, and ecu.

Andy, take the goodies that you're putting on your new truck, replace them with stockers if you need to so the old truck will still roll, and then put the whole thing on a trailer and let him come pick it up. It'll be easier on you both.

Thanks guys. Kid, I do like the idea of just sending the whole truck with him, but it's not very doable with my time table. Getting the shell rolling is going to be rather tricky. Rear axle is snapped on passenger side to start with.
Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to pull what's needed and hope for the best.
sam24th, Thanks for the comforting advice. Eric and I were talking last night and He pretty much thought the same thus far. Motor, ECU and wiring harness. He also mentioned the motor mounts. We'll keep digging. He'll make it work. That I can promise. I know he wants to run the manual 5-speed on it so he'll have to figure that one out. I'm keeping my 4 spd automatic tranny for a spare. Oh and also he will need the O2 sensors from the donor truck as it's engine specific from what I understand. If hes just kinda piecing it together, you might want to include a portion of the exhaust bungs where the 2 O2 sensors are. Manifolds of course also need to be from the 3.4.
