how do the hook computers up to to a non-obdII car?

with an OBD1 sensor. It is the same type of computer, that they would pull your codes with. If it shows that your codes are fine you will pass, but if it shows that your computer has had a problem with one of the codes in like the last 200-500 miles it wont pass. Sort of stupid I think

I found a rebuilt motor for 1,950 or a used motor for 1,595 with 68,000 miles. Deciding what one is more worth it. Probably going to go with rebuilt, but dont know.

Lol, man after seeing all of this I realized I got ALOT to learn about my truck. I don't know half of the stuff thats posted.

Was it as difficult as expected?

I've got a 90' SR5 3.0L Auto with 244K on all the original stuff. She's runnin slow due to the 4" lift, 31 10.5 R15's. The 3" exhuast, and K&N, it helped a little, but I know I'm going to be doing some engine/tranny work due to the age. What kind of hurdles will I encounter doing the 3.4L swap? Can I use my existing exhaust? Engine mounts similar? Just have a bunch of questions, and you're the only one I've seen to have done the change-over. Thanks for any help you can offer!- Jeff

Ya I wouldnt mind knowin some details either, it sounds like theres a little bit of rattle in the 3.0's bottom end in my truck, and it needs a new rear main seal. And up here in Alberta there is no emmisions check on our vehicles. I used to drive a 74 valiant, bout it round christmas last year, insured and registered with only a safety. So i doubt they car what engine is in my truck

If you can do it under $4k IMO it would be worth it if the rest of your 2nd gen is doing alright since you'd have the power and reliability of a newer Runner and the cost of a rebuild isn't going to save that much money.

question

Just wanna ask what do u need for the swap on a 1st gen Runner
(Motor, ecu, cables, trans????)
tnx for any answer.

OK 3.4L swap if a guy was to get a low milage (or fresh rebuilt) 3.4L with auto trans, and t-case....say out of a wreck 4runner... What all else is involved? ECM/ECU for sure.... Diffs, drives shafts (rebalanced)... might be worth picking up the whole wrecked rig for parts... Lets see 150 HP in the 3.0, and 212HP in the 3.4L if I rememmber correctly (but it is 2am)... That is a nice HP gain, plus the lowered milage.. What should it cost to do that swap if you had the wrecked 4runner resource? thanks... I have 193k on my 3.0, and it is runng very strong now (very minor leak rear main went away after engine fluch, and AMSOil change over), but I know some day It will go away on me, and since it's currently a restore project, I might as well start looking for the prefect donor. That way I will have it when it happens. And I might get some new front leather seats out of the deal... Could probably get a little of the funds back parting out, and off the parts from the 3.0 drive train...
