Took some pic's of me mall crawling in my neigborhood, heard alot of people talking about rubbing with 33's... But I articulated my 4runner the best I could with the rear tires off the ground at one point and never felt nor heard any rubbing issues. Either way here are some of the pic's.....

255/85's are skinnier than 285/75's that probably why you didnt see any, unless im wrong. Thats just logic though.

If you don't have wheel spacers the front doesn't rub very much or at all in some cases. Once you increase your rear articulation with longer shocks, springs and no swaybar you will rub. These are 255 BFG's. I don't have any rubbing driving around town in the front. If I drive into a hole in the desert at 30 MPH they'll hit. I've had to cut the pinch weld back and trim the fender for everything to clear. I'm not running any sway bar.

Notice the interference in this photo. The truck hasn't hit the bumpstop yet. When backing up it bent the bumper pretty good. It would have torn the mudflap off, that's why it had been removed.

This is the opposite side.

The front tire, on either side, isn't hitting in this photo.

This is the rear at full bump (riding the bump stop). The tire is very close to the body seam behind your mudflap.

With all of your swaybars attached, no wheel spacers and stock length shocks and coils, you'll have few issues with the 255's.

The narrow 255s should not rub as much as the wider 285s. The main spots that 285s rub is when turning and they contact the back of the front wheel well (firewall). The outside edge of a 285 has a larger arc when turning than the 255s.

Also the 255s (being narrower) won't rub the UCAs like a 285 will.

If you are only running a suspension lift (no body lift) they will probably run when fully stuffed in front. My 32s will top out and rub on the top of the inner fender liner. (my suspension flexes well and my front will compress to the bumpstops)

If you never rub, congratulations. I'm sure the 255s will have minimal rubbing over the 285s.

Looks good.

Prospectator,
It looks like you cut your front flare off. I'm really tired of the mudflap on my SR5 flares and wanna do this too. You have any close ups of that front flap?

Thanks.

Actually, the bottom piece of the front flare was part of the running boards. I cut the plastic part that goes from the flare to the running board. It wasn't really a mud flap.

If you can get a true 3" lift, you shouldnt really have any problems. I would suggest pounding dwn ur pinch welds and you may want to bust out a grinder and grind out the very end of the pinch weld... I saw it as a potential tire popping prob.

Here are a couple of shots of my front compressed. I still have some room to compress. I have rub marks on my inner fender liner. These marks are strictly from the height of the tire and has nothing to do with the width. (265/75-16, actual height of 31.9") I'm also sitting at ~3.5" of lift in front, all suspension.

Some "on trail" situations will cycle the suspension differently than static tests.

Thanks for all the pictures, info and great comments... Really like to flex the rig out as far as possible one day, just to she what her limits are you know?
