3" Lift Idea for 3rd Gen - Thoughts?

I'm looking to get a 3" (approximately) lift for my 4Runner but I am new to lift so I'm looking for some approval or advice to see if what I have in mind will be good.

This is my list of components for the lift and they were selected with a budget in mind, Please correct me if things are wrong or if they will not work:

Front - Bilstein 5100 adjustable height shocks at the 2.5" setting and Highlander Coils for another 1", and a 1" diff drop kit

Rear - Rough Country N2.0 shocks with FJ80 7 wrap springs giving a 3-3.5"

Will this work? If not, what do I need to change?

The only comment I have is that you might want to consider getting OME coils up front (or comparable). Goings about $165 new for the pair, not much different from the Highlander coils (unless you're getting these used).

What is your budget? At the end of the month I am getting mine and its looking to run me before shipping around 768 murican dollars. Going through wheelersoffroad for the d558 front 5100's, and the FJ 5100's in the back. I am going through Toytec for their Eibach front springs. Those will give 3 inches in the front without going above the bottom setting on the 5100's. (which is what you said you wanted yes?)
In the rear I am using Toytec superflex coils with those FJ5100's. Those are the extended travel shocks offered with the supercoils. Going through wheelers though I am getting them for 143... not 200. Those superflex coils in the rear will give about 3 3/4 without additional weight. (good thing I want to add some weight).

I was advised with those coils youll need extended brake lines though. Although I havent put this lift on, I do know for sure that it will work because I spoke with Kevin over at Toytec to make sure my lift worked properly the first time I went to put it together.

Well my original idea was to keep stock coils and get a 1" spacer instead of the highlander coils and I priced the total lift out to be around $480, so I was hoping to keep around the $500 range.

What are you wanting from your lift? Clearance? Offroading? Looks?

I would go with Toytec/Eibach 3 inch springs, I have read A LOT of posts where people have started with a spacer/stock coil, then changed to 99 tall springs, then or tundra springs, with maxed out billie 5100's, tried top plate spacers, etc, then finally bought a true 3 inch lift.

Unfortunately they spent a lot of money and time swapping parts till they were pleased at the end with a true 3inch. Luckily they posted their journey thus making the decision of what we are looking for easier than trial and error.

I farted around with my ford explorer for years replacing front end parts and riding like crap because I cranked up the torsion bars, and adding shackles and add a leafs in the rear. Then I finally bought a true kit and am pleased. With all the money I spent on "saving money" I could of just started with the true lift and probably had some left over when it was all over and done

I do want the lift to be good for off road performance but I don't want to go to far with this hence this is my first car. If I get the Eibach coils, will they work with the same shocks?

This is my first lift too, and I can say that ive spent since may on here to find how I want to lift. If you want to use it for off road, Ill point out that theres a reason people arent going with just a spacer lift on the front for off roading. I see that to supplement the lift to square up the front with the back. All your experienced guys are going to tell you what Im going to tell you. Dont spend the money now on something youll want to replace in 2 months. Save up for the next two months and spend it then to get it right the first time. If youve got a budget of 500 bucks... how quickly can you gt another 250, or 300? Thats just my .02.

I guess I can wait and save up I'm just in a hurry because my stock tires are going out and I was looking to move up to 285/75r16's but you need 3" of lift to fit those. So I currently have the lift and tires on my hands.

The toytec/eibachs will work with the bilstein 5100. That is what I recently installed on my 02 4runner and am very pleased with the result.

From my daily reading of the forum this is a great setup for daily drivers that see some trail rides. The cost is much less if you use the bilstein 5100, toytec/eibach springs, and use your stock top hats. The complete coil overs are very nice with the spanner wrench to adjust the coils while they are still on the rig as oppose to my setup where i have to remove and compress to adjust height, but with the correct spring and shock there should be no need to adjust higher than what the two will give you, unless you put some major weight up front.

Trust me, even if you don't do any hard core wheeling the true 3inch lift spring with a good shock (bilstein 5100) is the way to go. The ride quality is great. IMHO. 285/75/16 would look great with 3inch lift.

I was looking to do that too. But youll need new UCA's to fit those or youll need wheel spacers. Also add to the cost. Those tires are the fat 33". I decided to go with the 265/75R16 because they add an extra inch, are a little bigger, but can fit with or without a lift.

I already have 265/75r16's right now so I'm fine getting wheel spacers too. My next question is if I should buy right the first time, should I get Rough Country shocks in the rear or 5100's because that takes this lift from about $555 to $680.

Billies are what I see used most often. Everyone on here seems to really like them. What prices are you seeing for the RC and the Billies? Wheelers has the 5100's for 143 per pair. Like I said, my lift total before shipping is 768. Shipping is going ot run prolly 80, So around 850. But its done right the first time around. Those spacers in the front are going to set you back another 125. If you do the back, they will set you back another. 125.

If youre okay going with spending the money on Spacers, and the premium for more rubber on the tires, then why not spend that money on the lift instead? Thats going to benefit you more off roading than going up an inch on your tires.

Definately sounds like a better plan. Have you found your LC coils already? If not, I did learn that the coils that come as a pair for LC are not typically the same height (Im not sure why, probably has to do with more weight on one side) so if you want an exact amount of height on the two, youll need to buy two for the same side.

I haven't found any FJ80 coils yet, I was going to check some local scrap yards but that is good to know about the coil lengths. And with the spacers, that was just my first Idea to level the front with the rear but if I am getting the Eibach coils now I no longer need to get any spacers.

The spacers I was talking about for your 285/75R16's are the wheel spacers that basically push your wheels outside a little so they dont rub against things like your UCAs. Those will still be needed to fit that size tires, and cost 125 for a pair if you go with the most commonly used brand.

Oh I see now, my friend is hooking me up with some tires from his shop so that won't be a very big expense so the spacers are still doable. I thought you were talking about lifting spacers. Either way the lift will be coming first and tires will probably be bought in 6 months or less.
