3 or 6 ton jack stands

Do you use 3 ton or 6 ton jack stands when you lift your 4 runner? 3 ton stands seem a little short when I measured them but I kind of like them because I can use them on my other smaller cars. People's thoughts?

I've seen pictures of 3's folded over on this forum.

That was enough for me to get 6 ton jack stands. Aside from the extra strength, they are a much more useful height for a 4runner.

I bent a 3 ton so I'd go with a 6 ton. You can get a set from Northern Tool and Equipment right now for $50 and it has a safety pin on them.

If you need smaller for another vehicle then get both. Don’t get squished for not spending another $50-$100

6 ton for sure. 3 ton would be almost fully extended which imo is not as safe.

I have four Esco 3 ton, max height is 21.5". These are pretty bomber jack stands, solid welded members, none of that stamped, bent, and welded stuff. If you are going to buy less expensive jack stands, yeah sure, I agree buy 6-ton.

Seriously if you're bending a 6000 pound rated stand on a 5500 pound truck, well those are either sh!t (not really a proper rated) 3-ton jack stand, used incorrectly or bad placement (it happens). You are never putting full weight on a single stand anyway, the jack is there that you use to lift it too.

While having more is always better, when is too much too much?

I bought 6-ton for my 80 series, so it's just what I use for all my trucks. Especially if you're lifted, the extra height of the 6-tons makes them far superior as you don't have to have them fully extended. Buy once, cry once.

6 ton because that is rated for two stands not one like most people think.

6 ton stand= 6000 lbs each

3 ton stand= 3000 lbs each

2 ton stand= 2000 lbs each.

Not always, but you do bring up a good point.

side question: anybody have any recommendations for a cheap but reliable jack? planning to get 6 ton stands but not sure the minimum jack i could get away with leaving the truck on that and the two stands

The Amazon price is for a pair. (although I have seen expensive singles). I bought two pair each at seperate times on Amazon. The first set was $97 and the set second $114.

I bought a pair of 3-tons, regretted it whenever I needed them, then bought a pair of the jacks linked above. They’re great.
