305/70/16 tires? what problems will i have?

i have a 2000 t4r 4wd 3.4l supercharged. sway away 2.0 coilovers that will be set at 2 1/2" lift and rear OME 891 springs with bilstein 5100 rear shocks. i will also have a toytec 1" body lift.

i ordered the wheels today. they are pro comp series 7031 16x8 with 4.5 backspacing. also will be adding in near future aftermarket UCA's.
i wanna run 305/70/16 tires. i will be doing mild offroading. no rockclimbing.

during normal driving and such, what problems will i have? how much rubbing? what shall i do to accomidate this setup? i just dont wanna run a narrow"pizza cutter tire".

I'm running that size tire with the same backspacing on my wheels. They were rubbing on the stock UCA with the 4.5" backspacing so I threw some spidertrax wheel spacers on. I've since put on some aftermarket UCA's which I think gives just a little more room in there, but I've just left the wheel spacers on there. Plenty of room now. You'll probably need to pound/trim the pinch weld area also. You might be able to get away without wheel spacers and just the aftermarket UCA's, but I haven't tried it.

I'd say wait to add the spacers until you test them on the truck without spacers.

As Snowrunner said plus he has a body lift. Since they are wider, they will not stuff into the wheelwell and will rub the fender lips (snowrunner, please confirm).

Also the wider the tire, less backspacing or wheel spacers will move the outside edge out. This edge will have a larger arc that can increase rubbing when the front wheels are turned.

Gerdo is correct. At full stuff it will rub unless you trim. In my case, it still rubs even though I trimmed. Ha

well i ended up with 305's! i i was browsing CL, ran across brand new never mounted duratracs for 660 bucks cash. just got them today! can't wait to mount them!!

The problems you will have are potentially:

UCA rubbing
Fender/wheel well rubbing obviously

Decreased gas mileage - maybe a gear change?....
And with no gear change going uphill will seem slower in my experience but probably not with that supercharger under the hood.....

thanks fellas... yep, ill be ordering the camburg UCA's very soon. maybe that will clear that. as far as fenders, maybe bump stops or something. i probably would have went with the 285's, but ran across the good deal for the 305's. id like to be able to do a fender trim and raise the flares up with it to keep it looking factory. think i saw someone that did that here. i may give that a shot. as far as rear, maybe a fender roll will help? and bumpstops?

Reviving an old thread instead of starting a new one. Recently bought a 96 t4r after selling a 00' limited I had a few years ago and am planning to run icon coilovers with SPC/LR uppers in the front and 861s in the rear and trying to not run a body lift. Came across a smoking deal on craigslist for some 305/70R16 MTRs and wondering if I can run them on stock 6 spokes without cutting up the rear fenders. I know I will need to cut out the pinch weld pretty good and may still rub on the frame but I would like to be able to stuff the rears into the fender without shredding a tire. Am I better of looking for some FZJ80 wheels to correct the backspacing issue so I wouldnt need to mess with spacers? Looking for some feedback even though I know there arent a ton of people running this size.

I ran these tires without cutting anything. If you set your SPC control arms forward you will completely clear the pinchweld without any modification. The rear worked fine for me also. I do have a 1.5" body lift but you should be okay.

Good to know! Thanks Jayrolla. Seems like most people that I have seen running this size are running a body lift to help clear. I'm going to try them out and if I run into issues I should still be able to break even for what I can sell them for after I buy them and mount/balance. I will post back with my findings!
