31" tires with 3.43 gears

so i want to get 31" open country's on a stock suspension 2wd, but will the stock gear ratio be able to handle the 31" tire?

ive looked for this answer and nothing has popped, just will these size tires fit and how bad will it rub

i know there gonna rub but a lift kit will be shortly after.

yeah, if you have the V6 SR5 2WD you'll almost definitely have the 3.91

Definitely not 3.43's. I think he meant to type 3.73 which is what many V6 RWD's on 225's came with.

Are you positive? I knew the 4th gen V6 2WD often came with 3.73 but this is the first I've heard of them in a 3rd gen.

This. I would not run 31's with anything taller than 4.10's.

I'm thinking he has 3.91 rear axle ratio. The following calculator does a good job illustrating the difference a couple of inches make in the final drive of a vehicle.
225/75R16 calculates to a 29.3 inch tall tire(yours may vary).

If you enter 31 and 29 in the calculator, it asks for a 4.18 ratio. Not end of days stuff, but notable. All a matter of what is important to you.

So whoever said I have 3.73 is correct and my current tire size 225/75/15 not 16"s. But I get everyone's answers and thank you for the correct input.

Of the three sources here for identifying my axle, all 3 give a different answer! So I either have 3.30, 3.58, or 3.90 axle ratio. One of these days I will just check it myself.

What axle codes do you guys have, and what color is your pinion paint? I don't know what 2WDs are supposed to have, but if D Farms has an '02 4WD shouldn't that be 4.10?

If that chart I linked is wrong, I'll stop throwing it around, but I've never seen it be wrong before?

The chart you posted said my code (A02A) is 3.58. I have a 2000 4cylinder automatic. I won't have an opportunity to jack up the rear and verify it for a few days. I'm going to record my RPM at speed and then calculate it.

No no no! The charts are wrong! We've been through this!

Don't listen to any of the charts that tell you that axle code->gear ratio. It just doesn't work that way, at least for 4runners. You need to actually measure your gear ratio using the spin method. Trust me, we have been through this a million times before on this forum. All the tables and charts are either wrong, or not completely correct.

The general consensus', consensi, consensuseses are that the unlocked auto's were 4.10, locked autos were 4.3, I think Manuals were 4.10, and IIRC 2WD's were 3.91. And there's a 4.56 in there somewhere too, I don't remember what those come on... Even these rules aren't confirmed to be 100% correct, though I don't think I have seen them wrong (Unless I quoted them wrong...)

I can pretty much guarantee you have one of those 4 ratios. For example, my axle code A04A, which that chart says is 4.56, but I definitely have a 4.3 (I measured).

Thanks for the clarification guys. So I guess I'll get a 265/70/16 tire then that's about a 30 inch tire right
