32x11.50x15 on stock '96 SR5?

Let me start off by saying I tried searching extensively without finding the info I'm looking for. I'm aware everyone says a 265/75/16 is the biggest tire you can fit stock, but that size does me no good with my factory 15's. I'm one of the few with factory 15's :redbrick: I have the split 3 spokes on my '96 SR5 2WD runner. They're 7" wide, and I'm guessing the backspace is something like 4.5"?

I'm trying to move up from a 235/75/15 (28.5" I think) to a 31x10.50 (which I know will fit) or 32x11.50. I've been on the hunt for some used BFG A/T's, and actually just got 2 used 32x11.50 off Craigslist last night for cheap. While I'm casually still looking for another 2 tires, I want to make sure they'll fit without rubbing the upper arm. I know there's a possibility of needing to pound down the pinch weld, so that's not of concern for me.

So here's my question: Has anyone that has/had 15's tried 32x11.50x15 tires with NO LIFT? These things are wider than the 265/75's, so thought I'd ask here before finding out the hard way.

I do intend on doing some 882 with 5100's or used replacement coilovers (king, Icon, Sway a way, etc) for the front and 906 for the rear in the future, but that could be a ways down the road, so I need to be able to drive on these as-is for a while. I know 1/4" spacers would probably solve any issues, but if I try getting these mounted and I don't have the spacers yet I'll be S.O.L. Anybody with experience have any feedback? i may very well be wrong but i THINK that the largest tire to fit would be the 31x10.5x15.

Yes, they will rub! I have a 2000 and ran 32/11.50/15 for almost 2 weeks before my lift was installed. Mine rubbed just about every time i turned even the slightest bit. I am now running OME 3 inches front and rear with no rubbing at all. Hope this helps.

I'm assuming since it was only when you were turning, that it was rubbing on the mudflap or pinch weld. I can take off the mudflaps and beat in the pinch weld until lifted, then re-install the mudflaps. My main question with fitment at the moment has more to do with rubbing the UCA. Thanks for the feedback.

Ok here is where you might have the issue. you already know you can hammer the pinch weld and eliminate rubbing that way. Now if you also read about guys running 285/75 16 you hear that a lot will rub the upper control arm. This is fixed by spacers. Since a 32x 11.50 is just a little wider then the 285 you may also have a rubbing issue on the UCA as well. Just something to look at. The tires I wanted to run if I had the 15's were 33x10.50 AT's but that is just me.

I agree with pikeman. If I had to do it over again, I would run a 33/10.50.

I always heard the 285's referred to as more or less 33's, and I thought they were close to a 33x12.50, but after some research I see that they're narrower at 11.2, which that being the case it appears I'll for sure rub the UCA :redbrick:

So where I'm at is either sell the two 32x11.50x15's and continue my search for 31x10.50x15 OR get some 1/4"or 1/2" spacers. I think since I'll eventually lift it, the 32's will fill better, so I might just stick to that plan.
