33x10.5r15

I was wondering what anyone thought about 33x10.5s? I have 15" wheels with a good backspacing on my 4runner now, I was just curious about people's thoughts on this. I understand that I will have a limited tire choice, but I love the look of a 33 on a 3rd gen 4runner. Also, I have researched this topic and only find info on 2nd gens. Also whenever this topic comes up on a 3rd gen, my question is not answered. Thanks,

ok so you love the look of a 33... then why not go with 285 70/75 16s or 305 70 16... or a 255 85 16.... those are all gonna be 33s...

why do you want to run the 15" wheel? its gonna hold you back in places, like brakes

yeah you can run that tire, there is nothing wrong with that, but like you said, its gonna be a very limited tire selection

The kid, thanks for the reply. I have def thought about running a larger wheel. I really love the look of the tundra wheel like you had run. Thanks for your thoughts. By the way, I love your 4runner, one of the best. Also, thanks for your service, my pops was a 25 year Navy man. I have a lot of respect.

Well, one benefit of the 15 inch wheel is more sidewall, and the tire prices in that 31 or 33x10.5x15 are very desirable. I had the 31x10.5x15's bfg at's on my first 4runner, and they ran great, no complaints at all. I do have a buddy who runs the 33x10.5x15's in KM2's and they definitely have that tall skinny look to them which will be nice for highway driving, etc, but his only complaint is that when aired down they have a bit of sideways play.

Here's a good comparison:

I run 33x10.5R15s BFG AT on my first gen Tacoma. They are just a damn practical tire with a lot of sidewall, which I like. I also like being on the opposite side of the size spectrum from bro wheels! :thumb: As a matter of fact just yesterday I was wishing I could run 15" factory 6 spokers on my 3rd gen (that came with 16"s) just so I could run some good ol' 31x10.5R15s on the daily driver.

Thanks guys. Like y'all said, the prices for the 31 or 33x10.5s are very nice, esp given the times. I currently have 31s on my 4runner with 2.5" in the front and 890s in the rear. It is also a 2wd, so research has shown regearing would be a good idea. I think I may just bite the bullet and get some 5 star 16s or hold out for the tundra 17s. Thanks again for your thoughts.
