Thats an awesome ride you've got. I have the truck in the same color, however looking to repaint it (black it out like yours) any suggestions on painting the truck? Did you paint it yourself?

Ya know...i do. And they are already painted black. Thing is once they snap in there is no going back considering the wires that hold them in will no doubt scratch the powdercoating on the inside.
Do you guys think it will look better with them in?

I definitely did not paint it myself. The job was $1650 that included removing replacing windows and i actually got a new front window. Running boards and roof rack was painted along with bumbers and corners/taillights. It was done in a relatively cheap paint shop that didnt have a vacum controled paint booth or anything like that. You can see a few bondo and sanding marks, the clear coat is chipping in a couple of places, there are some clearcoat runs, and they did not removed the fender flares and molded door pieces so it looks rough where they meet. All in all for the price i am happy they did a lot of decent work at a fair price. Have your front and rear bumpers sprayed with bed liner or something the chrome doesnt hold paint well.
Leave them off. I dont run the caps on my jeep (which also has black rims) and it looks fine...

Well since there was a resurrection of the thread,i cant believe i somehow missed this one... i may end up putting on my running boards too once i get 35s if my rock sliders nvr come in since everyone has problems getting into the 4runner already with just my suspension lift and 33s besides me let alone after my 2" BL and 35s.

only if you over oil them... if you fallow the instructions you will be fine, i run K&N in all my vehicles and have for years they are hard to beat for the $$ and they have a lifetime warranty

I'm a big VW AUDI turbo guy..
I can tell you K&N filters will destroy your MAF ... over oiling just makes it happen faster.. they are all oiled and you will suck the oil onto your MAF and destroy it over oiled or not....
In our turbos you can watch it happen on vag com.. 2 weeks down the road you can see how much air flow is "reduced" at full throttle ( sensor reduction only) because its covered in oil and dirt. Happend on my 1.8t ... switched MAF and Dryflow filter and it never happend again.
Buy the new line of high flow dry filters out there .. just as much flow with no down sides.
Same price any way...why bother with k&n?

Why is it such a big deal that you're getting 16 MPGs? My stock rig with 265/75's gets around 17-18 going 75-80 MPH on the interstate, and hopefully the MPGs will increase once I stick to highway driving (i.e. 65-70 MPH with higher quality gasoline from my wonderful state)...
Is there something I'm missing? Such as the air intake reducing MPGs or bigger tires, or what?

If you read the thread title he has 35" tires which are 3" bigger than yours and probably a few inches wider. Huge difference in tire size, thats why 16 mpg is good for him.

bigger tires weight more, bigger radius, so the stock gears have to work twice as hard to get it moving, 16mpg is pretty impressive, my 33s with all the gears i have i only get around 14-15
this man is on the money, when you clean the filter then go nuts reoiling it the maf gets all gummed up
that being said I've seen more than a few back to back dyno tests where the K&Ns actually make less hp that stock intakes and its been shown that they don't filter all too well either.
