Continued from & the conclusion of 50 days later.

The driver in a Grand Cherokee who 'zoned out' ran a red light and upon impact, left curtain airbags went off and as the spin turned into a flip, the right curtains came out just before the truck came to rest on its drivers side. Managed to climb up and out of the passenger side door and hop down to 'safety'.

Thanks to a few good samaritans who saw it all and immediately rushed over to offer me aide, but I was fortunate to hop out with a sore arm and ear ringing from the airbag deployment.

Plan on seeing it in the daylight but presume with the airbags deployed it will likely be a loss

Dude..sorry to hear about your accident. Sucks about the 4Runner but being able to walk away is always good in my book.

With your thread you should be able to get the jeeps owners insurance to fully reimburse you.

Wow... sorry to hear JH. As time moves on with the 5th gens, we've had a few members with fairly serious accidents which the 4R protected them from pretty well. Gives confidence.

Glad to hear you're ok. I take it you were alone? You've got kiddos right?

OP: As others have said, glad you're okay! That is a total bummer, but it did what it was designed to do in that type of situation. Be thankful for that and get yourself a new 4Runner!

Thanks Gents! Definitely reassuring that I was in the 'runner and not a corolla Ive been contemplating as a DD. My son is going to be 1 in 11 days so very glad he or my GF were not in the vehicle.

given I had to fly to California and drive this one back...not exactly looking forward to the process of finding another.

Our child seats are behind the driver and passenger seats and not in the center.
From how you saw the airbags deploy, would they have come close to the child seats?

That sucks JH! Hope you can find another one - I remember following your purchase thread. Just be thankful there was not an occupied car seat behind you. Vehicles can always be replaced.

Holy crap, good thing the hit took place on passenger side. Might have been worse otherwise. I'm sure you're thankful - nothing here that can't be replaced - not all accidents end that way.

Glad you are ok, vehicles can be replaced. Hopefully the at fault insurance company is helpful.

Just a quick search on cars.com shows plenty of Mag Gray (the best color) KDSS Trails for sale with good miles. Good Luck! Also, if you have any pain whatsoever, don't ignore it. Go see a doctor.

I didn't exactly see the airbags deploy on the passenger side, but when I took my Son's Recaro Pro Ride out, it looks flawless. They were fairly slim though so as long as its centered on the driver or passenger rear seats, should do their job.

I still need to check driving from the North west/Colorado to Texas off my (out of state vehicle purchase) bucket list. :bounce:
