3M Clear Bra

Bump.

The piece of shit is now peeling off my mirror! I don't undertand what the problem is. I called the stealer to day and told them that they have two choices:

1) Fix the film for the third time and refund me 1/2 of my money

or

2) Take it all of and give me my money back. This is becoming a pain in the ass!

in my opinion, it's gotta be installer related. maybe try and go somewhere else?

its either not getting stretched enough, the adhesive wasn't activated properly, or not being layed down properly. the surface may also not be getting wet enough during application, or cleaned properly.

some general care tips though, but i'm sure you've been told.

don't touch the clear bra for at least 24 hours. no washing of it during the first 24 hours, not even by hand. after that, you should be able to wash the car by hand. no auto car washes. they can cause the film to uplift. i've seen it happen, we've had cars in the shop that have to have the clear bra redone because of it uplifting during a car wash. try and keep it out of direct sunlight while its drying. crucial for the first 24 hours, but try and keep it out of direct sunlight for about 2 weeks. have it looked at by the shop in two weeks to see if its drying properly. if you see bubbles, don't touch them. they should dry out, but have it looked at by the installer to see if its normal. some are, some aren't. if he/she says it is, and it dries as a bubble, then it wasn't..

I have 3M on my Nissan because of the numerous rock chips I got. Is Toyota's paint really bad also? Just wondering if this is a necessity or a "nice to have"

Toyotas are very bad with paint, seems like there is only 1 coat put on to save on cost and to top it off the coat is paper thin.

Other locations for the 3M film

I bought some of the film in bulk (both the 8mm and 12mm thicknesses) and installed it myself. I didn't do a full clear bra, and didn't do much compound curvature. I just tried to cover the flatter and generally forward-facing surfaces, plus the door and wheel well edges. It took some practice and lots of fiddly cutting (and some experimentation to produce templates) but it wasn't too bad. After 3 1/2 years it's all still in place with no problems and no peeling.

I put film in two other areas that could be troublesome. I put squares in the indentations in the doors under the door handles. This is where people scratch the paint with their fingernails when they're grabbing the door handles. Sometimes the scratches can become pretty obvious. Doing concave compound curves is a little tricky.

The other place I added film was at the bottom edge of the rear hatch, in the center. It's the place one grabs or pushes on to close the gate. Hands working on grit accumulated on the hatch can cause scratches here.

By the way, the film is supposed to be removable, even after years on the paint. Clean it, heat it with a blow dryer, and peel away. I haven't tried this part, though.

A bird who had evidently eaten something radioactive dropped a bomb on my 3M clear bra the other day...... whatever was in this bird crap left some bright (almost fluorescent) stains all over the front of my 4Runner. It even left a stain in the paint on one spot.

Dayum! That feathery varmit probably had the bird flu or something.
