3rd Gen. 4 cyl. (3RZ-FE), valve springs issue?

I heard that the 3RZ-FE engine has a known issue with the valve springs, where they begin to fail at about 130k miles. Is this true and if so:

1- Was it factory fixed and is there a model number or date to identify which trucks this effects.
2- If not factory fixed, is there a dealer recall?
3- If neither factory or dealer fix recall fix, would a DIY fix mean removal of the head to replace them?
4- What is the correct updated replacement part No.?

Never heard of this issue. But the 3RZ does tend to burn valves if the lash is never adjusted. The 5VZ can typically get away without an adjustment.

It's about a 2002 Tacoma with the 2.7l engine - same as mine? At 2:30 the mechanic explains the issue with the valves (not the valve springs as I stated). At 4:20 it shows a glimps of what I think is the engine label that shows X3R-N84.

Like JZiggy said, these engines had problems with burnt valves. I've never heard of the valve spring issue.

I think I've viewed the video you linked a while ago (can't listen, at library), if I remember correctly they're referring to the burnt valve issue. And they recommend getting the valves adjusted, same thing you do to avoid burnt valve.

The Tacoma has a different engine, the 2RZ. We have the 3RZ, or the 2.7L engine. Any engine can benefit from some regular maintenance including valve clearance adjustments. It's not a ticking time bomb though.

Careful about searching the internet. If you search long and hard enough you'll find critical, life-threatening issues on your vehicle for parts it doesn't have that you never knew existed. It's like searching WebMD when you have a sore throat and come back thinking you now have throat cancer.
