Please dissect this promising 4runner
Hi everyone,
I'm new here, and new to the 4runner scene altogether. I've been doing a lot of research and this guide has been very helpful. From what I can tell, this 4runner seems great, but I wanted to get your opinions on it. The price they are asking seems a little high to me, what do you all think? Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad I'm not too far off in my assumption. Maybe around 7500 is more reasonable?

In socal, maybe. But more like 6500-7000 in the rest of the country.

You may have fried your ECU. Have you looked at your fuses?

my buddy who works at toyota ran the VIN, great service history except he told me check the cats/o2 for a bypass from a declined dealer service back in '08, check the rad for the SMOD, and check front calipers after test driving to see if they're locking up at all. no timing belt service listed either, but i'll check the engine bay for stickers. Obviously check for rust too, but the seller sent me a pic and it looks pretty clean.
I've had two Jeep XJs (one on 3/4 ton axles), and Land Rover Discovery that I LOVED, and a rusty T100 for like 3 weeks. We'll see how this goes, the 3rd gen 4runner will fulfill number 3 out of 4 of my "high school dream trucks."

Decisions decisions...
1) '98 Limited with 98k miles for 7k - AMAZING condition
2) '99 SR5 V6 Sport Fully loaded - 130k miles for 4k - average condition
3) '00 Base 4Cyl 117k miles for 5k - average condition
All 2WD since I don't need 4wd. Any advice on which one to get?

Thank you SO MUCH for making this thread! It has been a lifesaver while I search for my first 4Runner. I have been able to learn so much about the generation in so little time! I look forward to finding mine and starting my own build.

Just got a 1999 4runner highlander edition from a used car lot. It was missing the rear locker switch. Part of me getting it was getting that fixed. When I got truck and trident it nothing happened. Then I looked at rear axel and I don't think I even have it. Does anyone else have same/similar year w rear locker that can post a picture of what I am looking for? The pics I found online were inconclusive. Right now I have a switch and no rear locker. Dealer says they will fix, but I don't trust them.
