Hi guys, I have a 3rd gen 4runner and I am having problems with my gas gauge. I was wondering if any of you would know what to do or where to start. The thing is, my 4runner is a rebuild. My dad rebuilt it around 2002/2003. He took a 1998 chassis and put a 2002 body on it. Since he put it together the gas gauge never worked. But the weird thing is whenever I fill up the tank, the gas gauge works for about 30-50 km of driving and then falls back down to empty. The really weird thing is while the gas gauge is working the other gauges malfunction except the temp gauge. They, along with the odometer, turn off and on really quickly but once the gas gauge goes back down to empty they go back to normal. Also, when the tank is full the gauges usually malfunction when going up a hill or accelerating hard (while the fuel is pushed to the back of the tank). I thought the problem might be the float in the tank or the fuel sending unit but why would the gas gauge work periodically when its full if that were the case? Anyways, im looking for any help or suggestions I can get. Thanks guys!
