3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

I know that I have the 5100 891 rear combo and it's about 3" lift and I have tundra front struts with the TRD springs and that's a little lower but I like the raked look.

What size tires are those?

Should I buy a 3rd Gen 4runner?

Looking for some advice as the 2001 4runner will be used for camping and fire trails ... nothing too extreme. Is a 2001 yr a good one to buy?

The best years to buy IMO are the 2001, 2002 3rd gen wise because the bulletproof 3.4l engine. I bought a 2002 sport edition less than a year ago and so far have bilstein 5100, front and rear with the front being adjustable up to maybe 2.5 inches and got the land cruiser springs in the back (7 wrap, 3 inch of lift). When im driving around the city it is a little raked, but i hit trails every weekend and camp alot and when i have my RTT (rooftop tent), gas cans, and stuff in the back, it sits perfect. I also have 265/75/16 BFG KO's. It has rode so good on highway and even better offroad, kinda drives like a caddy.

I also have a question for anyone out there. With the suspension i listed above, i now want to get some OME front springs to go with the adjustable bilsteins (that i have set to the top), BUT i would bring those front bilsteins back down to the first or second notch and wanna know what OME size should i get to level them out. Now with that also being said, would i have to get new UPA's or would i be ok?

Ok after having my OME lift on for over a year now and wheeling it pretty hard I have a couple questions I haven't been able to get a solid answer to through the search function. My current lift is heavy springs front and back and I will be adding armor, belly plating and a winch soon. I will be doing tube bumpers to cut down on weight a bit.

A: Do coil over shocks give you more travel in the front over the stock strut mechanism? Also my OME lift probably has 50,000 miles on it, if I got the Ultimate or Boss Kit with the superflex coils could I perhaps gain a little more ground clearance AND suspension travel, I'm more interested in travel than height but if I got both I'd be happy as could be.

B: Do new upper control arms (Looking at light racing) increase travel at all and also do they give you more wheel options (I want to get an aftermarket rim with different backspacing and ditch the wheel spacers)? Are they just to make alignment easier?

Tundra Stock TRD 4600 Billy's with coils on 3rd gen.

I have searched the forum a decent amount, and have yet to find a solid answer so I apologize if I missed something or piss someone off. I ordered some stock 4600 bil. Shocks with coils assembled off of a 2002 TRD access cab. Unfortunately, they wouldn't sell just the coils from the truck, and I am wondering if I could get 1.5-2 inches of lift from this assembly on the front of my 2000 SR5 4runner. I have seen mixed answers on this and a lot of variations. If I stick with 4600's would I still need the Tundra coil isolator a for the assembly? Thanks!

I'm about to purchase a lift and after much searching I'm getting conflicting thoughts, hoping for some solid advice. I have a '99 Base 4x4 4cyl looking for around 2" of lift with a slight rake.

Should I go with OME 880/906s or 881/906's (with or without trim packers)? Some threads say the 880's some say the 881's. I thought 881s were usually paired with 890's, but then was advised otherwise.

When you say Tundra front struts, do you mean the stock 4600's or the 5100 adjustables? Looking good either way!

The actual stock 4600s. I figured if I didn't like the ride I'd just get some 5100s. Which I might be doing since it isn't perfect. It's really only noticeable when you're going 25-30mph over bumps. Slightly firmer up front, but I'll be putting front and rear bumpers on sooner or later so it should be ok. We shall see...

Yeah mine will be going on this weekend the same exact lift! Did you have to get the tundra coil isolators? I've heard some people that don't and some people that do. Seems like it would be the safest bet.

I didn't I got OEM Toyota 4runner strut mounts and they worked fine for me

It does seem like a good idea though and I would recommend doing it

Great stuff!

Really good info! Being a noob and deciding on the right lift is a little intimidating. Having all this info in one spot makes it a little less so. Once I get to this point I will definitely be revisiting this thread!

This thread has easily been the most helpful to me deciding on which direction I want to go on my lift.

3" Coilovers in the front and LX450 coils in the rear with Bilstein 5125s in the rear, front diff drop and a Sonoran Steel adjustable panhard bar.

that is a great combo you will love it.

I currently have monroe ready mounts in front, monroes w moog replacement springs and airbags in the rear. Way too raked for my hid headlights to aim up anymore. I need lift help!

I want to keep the airbag system, as i occasionally tow, and take my stand-up jetski to the ocean via a hitch hauler. The way i installed the air bags i am slightly raked say 2inch lift, and i also have an arb bumper up front which doesnt help.

My truck is a dd highway beast that must remain reliable, comfortable, and efficient. 17inch 4runner rims/tire stock take offs.

I think i need a front diff drop to safely lift front, tundra coils n shocks maybe. A ss adj. Panhard bar, panhard drop bracket welded on, lc coils no idea how many wraps, and tokico blacks.

Have i done my homework correctly?? Advice or suggestions?

The tundra coils and struts up front should be a good match for the bumper you have. I'd probably go with the bilstein 5100 series in front on the bottom or the first notch up. The LC coils you'll probably want the 7 wraps since and bilstein 5100s too, that would be 3-3.5 inches in the rear. I personally would go with the OME 891 coils in the rear if you're going to tow with it since they are stiffer and made for that along with the airbags you shouldn't have any issues. Just my 2 cents though. You're set up you had picked was doable but the ride might be a little uneven front to rear with the different shocks. That's what I had done at first. Matching shocks works best.

That's what mine looked like with the front tundra struts and rear bilsteins with OME 891 coils. For reference. No bumper on it at the moment.

Lift Question

I have a 2001 Toyota 4runner SR5 4x4

Looking to put the following lift on my 4runner and i am wondering if anyone has had any issues with their runners after this lift. Things like control arm issues, bushing wear or drive shaft issues are things im checking on before i do this.

BK9602 - 3" lift ToyTec/Bilstein kit for 96-02 4Runner

Hello friends,
I have installed a suspension 3 "rough country mark for a 4runner 2002, but it is happening to me that when I have parked the vehicle and turned the rudder to the right or left, I have a sound, can this be a problem? .
Have had some similar problem.

Excuse the English I am translating with google translator: D

Tacoma Suspension - Q

Gents,
I have a 99 4R Limited 4X4 - wife has a 2015 Tacoma TRD OR. I am replacing her suspension with Bilstein and OME.

Will the stock Tacoma front shock and spring set up work on my 994R? and the rears?

I am sure there is a guide somewhere, but been reading tons of info on Tundra, thought I would upgrade to this if it fits. Plus it is free.
