3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

Installed yesterday. I have put 130 miles on it so far and love it.

Toytec 3" springs in front with Tundra 5100s on second notch. OME 890 springs in rear with Rough Country N2.0 shocks. Rough Country shocks were already on it so I decided to give them a try. I ended up with 4" in the front and 4 1/2" in the back. The amount of lift looks pretty high because I had 200,000 on my factory springs 2wd springs. Before numbers were 19 1/2 front 19 back. Now I'm at 23 1/2 front and 23 3/4 back. The ride is great. It is not harsh at all. Remember that I'm comparing this to completely worn out 200,000 mile springs and shocks that were on it. The back feels a little softer than the front so I will probably put Tundra 5100s on the back pretty soon. I also installed Spidertrax 1.25" spacers to set the wheels out a little.

My previous 4Runner had 99 Talls with Tacoma 5100s set on the second notch and I didn't like the ride. It was way to soft. The Tundra 5100s are the way to go.

I need to replace the springs and shocks for a 2002 Limited with 126,000 miles. I don't want much lift. The 99 Highlander option seems best for my needs. Which shocks should I use? Bilstein 4600 or 5100? Will I need to do anything else to make this work?

I just realized I bought shocks for a 97 Tacoma. Would the FRONT shocks happen to work with my 97 4runner 4wd?

this is exactly what i want. How much did everything cost you? if i cant get the tundra shocks which ones should i go with that are not to expensive?

I'm ready to lift my 1998 4runner and I'm glad I saw this thread. I have other lifted vehicles and I guess 3" lift would be just about right for me.

I plan to slightly increase my tires to 265/75/R16 (31.65"). OME is also my prefered brand because it is available in the Philippines. 4 days ago I requested a quote for 883 springs for the front and 890 springs for the rear plus the corresponding shocks but the distributor replied that OME does not recommend those springs for my 4runner. He said that OME can only recommend a lift of 1.5" which I feel is too short a lift.

Would anybody comment? Anybody using the 883/890 spring combination here in the forum? Many thanks in advance.

Couple of people have the 883s or had them. Plenty of people have 890s in the rear including myself. Im sure you will be just fine

Do you have to? No, but it will help out your suspension geometry. If you wheel a lot you may want to get the longer brake lines, I haven't had an issue with my stock lines yet. I should have did the diff drop because it stretched out the CV boots and leaked a little.

Hi guys! I'm a newbie here on the t4r forums, but not new to Offroad world. Well I recently purchased a 99 4wd sr5 v6 auto with about 172,000 on the stock suspension..

I want to upgrade the suspension! And wheels! Looking for advice I've searched high and low I like the options for lifting a 3rd gen. But let's face it there is endless options! I don't want anything extreme and something affordable.. the me if i am on the right track..

The front I want to do the TRD tundra bill Stein upgrade, iS this a good choice? how much is the set back and where is the cheapest place to find them new? If you were to drop around that much on this setup what would you do? Ideally I only want like 2.5"-3" lift. And doing this do I need to do a diff drop and extended brake lines?

The rear I'm pretty set on just a ome setup, no armor so im thinking just the medium weight coil for a 2.5"-3" lift, but what shock should I run? I want something comparable to the front. My current rear rides llike shit it feels like I'm always hitting the bumpstops, can I ditch the ugly cones in the center coil for a better aftermarket bump?

For wheels I'm set on a 275/75/16. Now for running aftermarket wheels what size b/s do I need to cLear the caliper? I'm staying 16"s in this rig, but if I get aftermarket wheels now that are 16" will they clear later if I do the tundra brake swap without running wheel spacers?

If I lift it I want it the right way meaning cost effective comfy ride, and no spacers anywhere..thanks guys sorry for the million questions

I wondering if anyone can answer my questions? about a month ago I installed 883 coils in the front and 891 in the rear. when I installed them I was hoping they would settle and the rear did but the front didn't! So now I am currently 1/2 in higher or a little more in the front than I am the rear? I am getting a bumper after I get taxes back so I know it will drop then but I really hate not having a rear to front rake.

I'm getting the toytec ultimate lift for my 3rd gen. I'm wondering what coils I should go with in the rear. Will the 3.75" rear coils Stinkbug the rear? What should I go with. I am planning on getting a plate bumper in the rear.

I have a 99 limited 4x4. Going with the ome 3" lift springs all around. Can i use my factory struts and shocks? Also i have a set of trd tundra front shocks from an 02 would the ome springs fit on them and would the be better. The trds have no springs on them right now?

Probably been asked 1000's of times but I can't find a clear answer regarding the common 2.5inch Front and Back spacer lift.

Would in need to also buy 2.5inch shocks to accommodate for the added ride height?

Yes, the shocks should accommodate the lift.

19.5" Purple Green White 8 wraps
19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps

Would this still give me a lean and the driver side sit higher, or would you suggest it would be ok to run this pair? Thanks

ought to sit nice and level with fuel in the truck.
