3rd Gen Bolt in Cage

I see more 3rd Gen getting dirty these days then ever before.. Just look at our little SoCal Run 30 rigs..... As people start to really realize the world beyond pavement I see the 3rd Gen becoming a great plat form for wheeling...

Well, a big difference b/t Cherokees & 4Runners is the IFS. Without SAS-ing your Runner, you're usually maxing out at 33"-35" tires... I know there are guys with bigger tires, but they're in the minority.

I've seen lifted Cherokees with 44"s on them no problem. And, those trails/hills that would need the cage would need those bigger tires, too. I can't imagine trying to get over major boulders in 33s...

AND...they're just too damn pretty to smash up!!

Just my 2 cents... :D

Good luck, tho...I love to see guys trying to get new products for the Runners!

You are not ever going to run 44's on a dana 35, and dana 30. Sorry, but cherokees take a lot of work to make good crawlers. They have no frame, and need a bunch of plating to make them somewhat stiff, Plus a cage because unibodys are not safe to even lean on their side. Sasing a 4runner is lots of work too. IMO they are both labor intensive. What ever cherokee you saw running 44's had a lot of stuff done, axles, long arm, probably a different t-case.

I would probably take my chances with ifs over that POS dana 30 front end

You can put a Dana 44 on it

But even then 44"s is pushin it

so enough chit chat.. Jimmy, have you guys came to a conclusion if you're gonna market this? Or are you guys still looking into logistics.
 
Although it obviously isnt bolt in i really like the design of the cage in that Jeep. Im not sure how practical it would be on a daily driver, and even if i do replace it as my DD I am more interested in long distance overland travel than a quick rock crawling trip so i dont know if having tubes through my roof would be the best.

I agree. I'm also more concerned about the possability of a high speed roll over then a flop on the trail.

I wasn't on here when this originally posted...I would love to have a internal cage. That's one of the first mods I checked into when I bought my T4R. The only thing I could find was a retrofitting of a first generations roll bar in the back. And they required you to find the roll bar.

Please update us on this. You have my vote: Heck Yes!!
 
So weird, I was thinking about this thread the other day. I'm still a yes. Wish I was closer and could be the guinea pig :D
 
I never saw this thread before and I'm glad I did today. This is exactly the product I'm looking for! Exo cages are cool but my rig is my DD. It is a lifted SUV so it's prone to tip over. I plan to go on road trips but I want it to be safe. I would be very interested in an internal cage. Subscribed
