3rd gen hood w/scoop - good price?

After some hard searching, I have came up with a source for an aftermarket, New World scooped hood. With my discount on the hood, it is $70. out the door. Also, all the insert pieces (7) for scoop insert and installation. Genuine new Toyota parts for $135. plus another ten bucks for shipping. That's $215. total, ready to paint. Is this a good price?

from what Ive read from some others, yes. I think the hoods are around $150-$175 but the insert is ridiculous like $200 or something like that. So total around $275 or so. Those numbers aren't correct, but I think its somewhere in that area. hope that helped

I purchased a scooped hood from certifit for $65 local pick up and the scoop guts from toyotaparts.com for $157 shipped. Looks like you found a great deal as well. Some of the guts part are not necessary. If you do a search you'll find write ups on which parts you can do without. The fiberglass scooped insert was $135 all the rest could be bought for less or found in most auto junkies garage. Couple of screws, bolts and silicone is what it amounts too. Hope this helps

yeah, the scooped hood is showing 82$ here... unfortunately, they wont ship, so you need to be near one.

as far as the insert stuff... when I do mine, I plan on making my own and keeping it open so air flows in to the hood. Ill probably use some sort of furnace filter to keep the air clean.

Sounds like a good deal, although I dont know anything about New world brand. Just make sure that if it doesnt fit as good as OEM you can bring it back.

I know Certifit will back their product to fit like OEM

A break down of all the parts is like this...
My son works for New World, thus the discount price. I dont even have to pick it up, as he will bring it to me so no shipping there. $70. New World has parts that fit better than Certi-Fit so I am told.
I first priced the three main parts from my local Toyota Dealer for the scoop and was quoted $391. total.
The parts listed online discount OEM toyota parts is

My son is a tech for Toyota, we placed the Certfit next to a OEM Toyota blank scoop hood. The differences were the OEM hood had "made by toyota" stamped on the underside and the price.

My certift hood fits like a glove, so you should have no problem if new world claims to fit better.

good luck and get a good bake on the paint job, you'll like the outcome much better.

Finding a painter that will also bake his work maybe a tough find. An entire paint job for my truck is definitely in the plan. I really like a lot of the stuff you did with yours. My 99 is white and I intend to keep it that way. I particularly like your white paint on the tag box, rear wing and grill. I bought limited flares for my SR5 but will end up going with the SR5 flares like you started with. I also have a ARB bumper to be installed and like the looks of the silver you had on your bumper.

The color is a special house of color mix it's Imperial White with custom pearl tint. The front and our own fab'ed rear swing-out bumper (soon to be installed ) are both textured white powdercoated then painted with the same Imperical white color. Special additive flexers were added to paint prior to painting all the plastic parts. We are replacing the 1st gen s/c with a new 2nd gen s/c. When installed it will be painted to match the truck with some special black accents on the lettering and fins. It should look cool when done.

Other than his job with toyota, my son also has a auto customizing shop, which is where all of the 4Runner work has been done. His clients projects are vintage, late model, imports and off-road vehicles. Since he does this work on the side, he must be doing something right. His clients wait months to get their work done and their happy to wait. But his shop is like a man's cave for the old boys club with expendable cash and nothing but time to kill. lol.

You should check at your local dealership to see if they have any 3rd gens going to auction and maybe attempt to switch out hoods, this being if they have one. Usually they have a sport sitting there with the scooped hood and all but no one ever asks them about it. It's worth a shot.

I have a 1998 T4R black sport hood complete with scoop for trade.... It's got some bubble on the front and 153K miles on the paint but still available for trade. Shines up really nice, the bubble was covered by a bug guard until I bought it mid-summer.
