3rd Gen Lean

My 2000 SR5 4x4 is leaning significantly to the drivers side. I installed new stock (Monroe quick struts and sensatrack shocks and Moog springs) coils, struts, and shocks all around about 8 months ago and I removed the rear sway bar about a month ago. Just noticed the lean for the first time last week. I've gotten under the truck and looked at everything and nothing is broken or seems out of alignment.

The drivers side is 1.75" lower than the passenger side.

Any ideas? Is it possible that the sway bar removal would cause lean? I wouldn't think so...

I don't know about 3rd gens, but 4th gens have driver side specific springs. Did you happen to install the passenger side on the driver side?

I was just educated about this not too long ago. Its called the Taco lean, and it shows a lot more once you lift it. If you look in my build thread theres a picture of mine from the back and you can see it. I put on all new bushings on the rear sway bar a few days ago, and it doesn't appear to be leaning as much. Maybe I'm just crazy, I don't know.
 
That's the Toyota lean. Mine went away after I installed OME 906 springs, because they deliberately make one spring a little taller.
 
I gots the same issue. I had to do suspension on the wife's truck and went cheap with parts from rockauto. I also used cheap moog springs on the rear. Well, ya get what ya pay for. I'm gonna try some coil spring boosters first. If that doesn't work I'll have to get some OEMs or OME's. And no, the moog springs were the exact same length which I knew was going to cause an issue. Oh, well, rear springs aren't that hard to swap out -
 
The rear springs were the exact same height so I figured they were identical. Plus, the truck sat level when I did the swap about 8 months ago; just recently got the lean.

I measured from the ground to the fender so I think when I get home I'll measure form the hub to fender which would pretty much point directly to the coils.
 
The "Taco Lean" is easy to remedy in Tacoma's, because of the ability to put shims between the axle housing and the leaf spring.

On the 4Runner, you need to either add a spacer to the driver side, or get springs that are a little taller on the driver side.

The reason it leans to the driver side is quite obvious. All the weight is there, with nothing to really compisate on the passenger side.

You could add a bunch of weight to the passenger side for the battery and gas tank, and that would level it out, but just get springs or a spacer for the driver side. After, of course, making sure the springs aren't in the wront places.
[MENTION=110387]jstim[/MENTION] seems to have found a way to do some PM, as well as fix the issue, so maybe try that first.
 
You think the left spring has just sagged that much already? That would be RIDICULOUS haha.

I have daystar spacers in the rear so it's not shorter than the front...maybe one of them came off haha
 
Thanks [MENTION=76419]Doc2012[/MENTION], all I did, and I will take the measurements for you guys at the tops of the wheel wells when I get off work. I just changed out all the rear sway bar bushings like I said, but this was after the SS 1.2 lift kit. I haven't measured it yet, but at least to the naked eye it looks level from the back, and it doesn't do that rear sway so much anymore over bumps. Just my .02

YOU don't have leaf springs in the back of your 4Runner. You have coils.

And I say YOU, because I do have leaf springs, because I did a conversion.

Btw my 4Runner is perfectly even and I have Tundra Coils and Bilstiens up front.

As was stated installing the front end on the wrong side will cause lean. It happened to me before. One of the coils is just slightly longer and needs to be put on the correct side.

If everything is installed correctly you shouldn't have noticeable L/R lean in my opinion.
 
Make sure springs and coils and seated correctly. If off a bit will cause it to preload and lift up a bit.

I had to install a 1/4" front driver toytec spacer and rear left ome 10mm spacer to fix my lean.
 
Why is nobody addressing the fact that he says it almost a 2" difference? That can't be right. Most of the "leans" came after a lift and usually didn't equate to more than a 1/2" I think something else is wrong.

OP need to see some pics directly from the side and from the back.

The solution seems simple, just get a fat chick to ride shotgun. That should even it out and you have someone to guard your truck at night.... J/K. Just get some OME trim packers and even that baby out.
 
I think the mistake there was using Moog, unfortunately. I looked into using their suspension parts until I realized their coil compression rates and thickness were sub-par. From what I'm reading the front seems to be more level than the rear? That would point to the Moog coils in the back. You could try swapping them if perhaps there's quality issues with the driver's side coil and it might even out but it'll eventually start to sag in the rear if that's the case. I would see maybe if you can return the Moogs and try a different brand that's more stiff.
