3rd Gen New all around shocks recommendations.

New all around shocks recommendations. Hi! I want to change the all around shocks on my 1998 4Runner 4x4 SR5, any suggestions? I have 99 tall on the front and OME 906 on the rear. I will appreciate your response and help. Thanks in advance.

There is a ton of shock info on the forum here, and LOTS of recent discussion. It might be worth your time to look back 10-20 pages of the 3rd gen forum.
I'd rather answer your question than telling you to search- like some folks here will do. It doesn't make this thread go away; doesn't clear any clutter- so I'd rather just do my best to be helpful.
I have '99 Tall front springs as well, and I recently replaced my stock front shocks with 5-position height adjustable Bilstein 5100 made for a 2004 Tundra. Personally, I couldn't be happier with the ride quality! Relatively soft springs, paired with medium firmness shocks. Gives a nice, comfortable, controlled ride. I am on the 3rd perch of 5.

There is also a 4Runner-specific 5100, and I'm not sure what the difference is in those- other than they are only 4-position adjustable. There is yet another option, made specifically for Race Car Dynamics by Bilstein. Those are 3-position adjustable. Both options are listed here-

I don't have experience with the 4Runner specific shocks, but I do love the Tundra 5100 with my '99 Tall fronts on my '97 4Runner.
I tried the OEM Bilstein shocks from an '04 TRD Tundra, and they were valved much softer than the 5100. I think they're a 4800 series shock, and I think they're valves to Toyota/TRD spec. Much under-dampened for me.
I had 4th gen 4Runner 5100 shock in the reR with my Superflex(220lb rate) springs, and it was pretty nice. I wouldn't mind a bit firmer valving, but I'm not sure that is an option in my price range; I think the 5100 is the best option for me. Like I said- it was nice. I currently have the REAR shocks off that same '04 TRD Tundra I mentioned above installed, and I am not happy with them at all. Valving is just plain sloppy on those. I sold the 5100 to a friend, and installed them on her 5th gen, but I will probably end up re-purchasing the same shocks again for mine. Seen here-

Pick the shock that best suits your height, but the 1.5-3" lift shock is the one I ran- and will run again.

I have read tons of threads and discussions about this topic, but sincerely I did not found any recommendations about specific shocks on 99 tall coils on the front and OME 906 on the rear for highway and some occasional off-road and if anyone had this setting I will appreciate their inputs. Thanks for your suggestions.
