Hey guys! I'm really new to the car world in general but I just recently bought a 2001 t4r limited 4wd. I love it already. I just put a new head unit and new speakers is but I am interested in getting a sub in the back. I am no audio expert but I know I'll need a sub and an amp. One of my problems is that I don't want to lose a lot of space in the trunk because I fill it up a lot so I was looking at low profile sub boxes and.. I can't figure out how to post the pictures but it's a sub built into the compartment in the trunk or a small sub box build over the wheel well on the opposite side. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this project or could post some pictures. Anything helps! Thanks!

I've had one 12" in another SUV's and about to put the same setup in the 4R as soon as I get a deck.

Kicker 500 amp with a Kicker 12" will get the job done, unless you are going relentlessly obnoxious and enjoy shaking the mirrors of the cars around you at the light :rockon:.

I am not a fan of small enclosures. The smaller the enclosure, the tighter and weaker the bass. The speaker you choice will have a recommended type of box. 12" sealed enclosures sound best to me!

Personally I would avoid any mods, its very bad for resale.

Powered subs have everything in one nice box.. Looks like it will tuck nicely behind the back seat.

Thanks for the reply RinoRomp. Yeah I do want do know what you mean but resale is not an issue for me. With your 12", how much room does the box take up? And as for the sub you subjected, have you heard that in person?
 
Thanks millerad1651 that is definitely something I will have to look at. I'm not trying to break glass but I don't know that that would have as much bass as I'm looking for.ill look into it though

Depending on how you have it set, it will shake my mirrors and people right outside my truck can hear/feel it.

However, it is not loud enough to rattle the trunk loose, or for other drivers to feel it...that is obnoxious and I want to punch people who do that in the throat.

No problem, my box is square... I just chopped a 2 x 12" box down to 1 x 12" and it gets the job done. I wouldn't recommend a square box though if you want to save space, looks like those truck boxes would fit a lot better (taller/thinner).

I haven't heard that RF powered speaker yet, but I am considering getting one. Reviews are on point and RF makes some good stuff, but I've been more impressed with Kickers which I am running now..

EDIT: Oh, yeah I thought you were considering making mods to trunk panels and what not... resale value goes way down when you do so. I always remove all evidence of subwoofers before selling.

Yeah, I'd definitely go with a powered sub that is an all in 1 compact design. I have a full 12" box in the back, and it always gets in the way when I'm loading stuff. When I bury it with gear I have to turn it off, which is annoying in and of itself. Plus the all in 1 is way cheaper than a sub/box/amp/install kit all together.
 
An infinity basslink gifts on the rear passenger side of the cargo compartment, behind the wheel well.

The idea of installing one of these (and a bolted down gun safe) has be tempted to swap my electric seats for the space. I don't think I can squeeze that under mine.

We got the same sub under [MENTION=85167]jmildoc[/MENTION] seat and he has power seats. It was definitely a tighter fit, but we got it to work. As far as I know, its still working well for him.
 
I run a JL Audio Stealthbox in my rig powered by an Alpine Mrx series amp rated at 350W RMS. It complements my door speakers very well without overpowering them and they are not amplified.
 
I built my own box over the passenger wheel well. (along with the dual battery/inverter box on the drivers side and frame for 3rd row seat)

Nice! How do you manage charging of the aux batteries?
 
Amp / Sub combo

I did an Amp / Sub combo in mine. I ended up getting the BOSS800.
8 inch sub with 800 watt amp.
If your going for great sound, stick with a setup like this (2 in 1) and save the extra money to invest in some good component front speakers. Plus this will save your cargo room.

10" kenwood marine sub. Obviously not the highest audiophile quality however it gets the extra kick I like in my music.
