3rd Gen T4R DIY Maintenance, Repair and Modification Videos

Hey Dudes,

We thought we'd share a milestone with Y'all. It took us 2 years, 1 month, and 19 days to finally hit 1 MILLION VIEWS. Also in that time, we created 69 videos and have attracted approximately 6400 subscribers. Sean (aka infamousRNR) and I are proud of what we've accomplished so far and we appreciate the support that we've gotten from many of you on this forum.

Sick Mods for All!

Timmy the Toolman and Sean

Congratulations, you've done us all a great service making these, they've come in handy. I've watched quite a few of them, beats the hell out of Family Feud :thanks:

Here's a video showing you how to do the press work to remove and replace the bushings on your rear upper control arms. This is a video just showing the press work. I really need to HF to procure the 20 ton press, considering the coupon is good until the end of June.

I guess Sean is having to put in the sweat equity to pay for his Supercharger.

The Harbor Freight press has been a super helpful tool. It's paid for itself many times over. I highly recommend one.

Well, when it comes down to having free time for shooting and editing video, I just have more time than him and sometimes shoot without him. The videos turn out much better when he's involved, but when somebody like Jordan has a project and the two of us are free and Sean isn't, we just do the best we can and getter done.

I was browsing CBI's website to see how much the dual swing out was. Maybe I'm blind and didn't see it. Did you have to special order it?

My Dudes and Dudettes... mtbtim and I have been working hard to crank out as many vids as we can for you guys to be successful in your upcoming repairs.

Here's a video to show you how to replace your UPPER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS.

CBI Weld-on Rock Slider Install

Hey Dudes,

Here's a video showing the installation of CBI Off Road Fab Rock Sliders on a 3rd Gen 4runner. The most important thing is choosing a good welder unless you are the good welder. We do cover some additional considerations for this install so I think it's worth a watch for anyone considering installing weld-on rock sliders.

Enjoy the Show!

CBI Hybrid Front Bumper Install

Hey Dudes,

Here's a video taking you through all the steps to install a CBI Hybrid Front Bumper onto your 3rd Gen 4runner. CBI Off Road Fab builds this bumper to be plug and play for the model years 1999-2002 so no cutting or welding is necessary. For the years 1996-1998, you need to cut off the existing frame end plates and weld-on plates provided by CBI. Since this install was done on a 1998 3rd Gen, you're going to experience the more involved installation for this bumper.

Enjoy the Show!

Panhard Correction Kit Install - Brackets made by @eimkeith

Hey Dudes,

Keith (aka eimkeith) makes a custom Panhard Correction Kit (PCK) for our 3rd Gen 4runners. The brackets are a combo lift bracket on the driver side axle and a drop bracket on the passenger side frame. The brackets correct the panhard bar angle after a suspension lift which improves the 4runner's handling.

In the video, we list all ways you can contact Keith to order these.

Here's the video and Enjoy the Show!

Haven't scanned all the posts, so I apologize if this had been asked before; any plans on doing a non-manual hub front wheel bearing replacement video? Going to be doing this late this year or early next and thought about videoing it myself, but wondered if you guys already had plans for it.

Love all the videos.

Cheers

mtbtim is very particular about getting torque values just right as spelled out in the FSM. It's part of what makes his repairs turns out great.

Sometimes I tell Tim that a fastener only needs to be gutentight, which usually only gets me a cross-eyed look.

Here's a t-shirt that explains what I mean :)

Lol that shirt

The reality of tightening things to torque spec needs to also take into consideration Fastener stretch, which is typically what the torque spec is in respect to. This means that once a Fastener gas beef torqued to spec it has potentially stretched Beyond the material limitations anticipated by the manufacturer, so retorquing it to that same spec a second and third time may not get you the same clamping Force or durability as when the Fastener was new

Now go look sideways at Tim if he's not using a brand-new Fastener and torquing it to spec

Also whether the threads are sticky or silky smooth makes a difference. And if there is rust on them. I think it is a good idea to oil them up first. If not, the torque you actually get is not consistent even with the same setting on the torque wrench.

Is there a list somewhere of one-time use fasteners for our 3rd gens? At least on my other rides, the manufacturer noted which bolts and nuts were for one-time use...

A bolt with lubrication should be torqued differently than one w/o. Wet threads require less torque, as I recall...

I have another split-beam torque wrench arriving next week. I really like that one doesn't need to zero them when done.
