3rd gen T4R New lift kit

So, I just bought my second 4runner. My first was kept stock. I plan on going all out(or as much as possible on a college students wallet). My first order of business is a lift kit. I have read the main lift kit thread posted but I still have questions. I don't want to spend a lot but I want quality. I'm looking at a 3 inch lift. I found a full set of FJ suspension from a 2010. Would that fit? 39,000 on them. What would you guys recommend?

What would you recommend searching for?
I am open to doing an OME lift, but I want to limit myself to about 500 bucks. I drive mostly onroad but I do go wheeling occasionally.

Nothing to hardcore.
Any suggestions there?

They're not really going to do your suspension any favors, but if you want to just get the truck in the air, go for it. Adding unsprung weight to mushy stock components isn't really ideal to me.

You can do OME front, LC coils in back. With a $500 budget, you may have to get cheaper shocks. But I'm sure there are quality shocks out there that will fit your budget. I don't know how much Landcruiser Black Tokico shocks go for, but I was looking at those for a while.

You can also buy a used kit. Or pieces of used kits. That way you can get quality and stay in budget.

As mentioned, LC coils and some shocks replaced front and back and you're set up. With my second build I am going strictly a budget build and so here is what I went with:

- LC 9.25 wraps - $60 local
- Toyota LC Rear Shocks - $152 through Toyota
- Bilstein 5100 Front Shocks - $255 through Essex Distribtors (Canadian Bilstein dealer)
- Strut replacement - $65 labour at Kal Tire

Total cost for lift = $532

EDIT - I am also going with a Toytec Adjustable Pan Hard Bar ($199) as the 9.25 wrap LC coils made the 4Runner stand quite tall and it took quite a bit of weight from my tractor to get the stock panhard in. Way too much tension on the suspension as is. Food for thought.

@shouldbeeasy how much lift front and rear did you get from this setup? i just ordered the 5100s through essex and im not sure what to do with the rear of my truck

the truck came with replaced OEM rear coils and shocks so its pretty high in the rear compared to the front right now.

i was originally gonna set the 5100s to match the "stock" rear height but may lift the rear now when I install the 5100 up front if its a better option in the long run.

For low cost the way to go is piecing together your own lift. Here are some prices I found.

Tundra bilstein 5100 - 4wheelparts @ 100 each
Lc coils(7.5 wrap) - around 80 used
Oem lc rear shocks - toyotapartsales @ 42 each
Eibach coils - toytec @ 164

Total cost - 486

I recommend assembling your own struts if you have time and want to save money. I rent two sets of spring compressors and use three in a triangle pattern to reduce the load.

I Used 2010 FJ Rear Shocks and Coils(NEW) on my 97 Lmtd. The front I used 04 Tacoma Bilstein 5100's on my stock 4Runner Coils(NEWER)

COST:
10' FJ Shocks/coils: $100(Craigslist)
Bilstein 5100's: $200(Off Road Warehouse)
TOTAL: $300

Not bad for a budget Lift, Took a buddy and I one Saturday to install(One too many Beers!!) I achieved about 2 1/2 in front(3rd setting) and about 2 1/4 in the rear. Good Luck!
