3rd gen Tacoma diesel?

I went to the Cincinnati Ohio auto expo the other day. While doing the Toyota ride and drive the guy working for Toyota tells me 3rd gen Tacoma is getting a diesel engine. I know he may be wrong but the way he said it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Interest if the 5th or 6th 4 Runner may get this engine. Don't hate just passing on the info.

No idea why CARB friendly Toyota would EVER offer a diesel in the US.

And my money would be that if they did, it'd be a Cummins, not a Toyota engine.

I remember reading several years ago that Toyota was going to start putting a Cummins diesel in their Tundras. Still waiting to see that.

Nah, I meant the reliability of the rest of the truck. I would hope they’d use a Cummins or proven engine.

Ive got a client who runs several Toyota dealerships, and I ask him every year about the Tundra diesel and rumored Tacoma diesel. The answer the last few years has always been the same; Tundra maybe, Tacoma no. Tundra would be a direct competitor for the domestic 1/2 ton diesels, so he doesn't think they will bother with the expense for such a small market share.

If he's working at the ride and drive at a Cincinnati auto expo, he probably doesn't know shit about what goes on at corporate.

Isn’t that a hilux? Over seas 4runner and Tacoma come in diesels.
