I had this same problem several months ago. Do I just modify this 26 year old 3rd gen 4 runner or leave it stock. I love stock because it works and everyone can fix it when something goes wrong. Offroad it has be really capable but going to advance trails it just isn't up to the task. So I brought a can am max x3. Problem solved because now I have a dedicated offroader that could go anywhere I want in a quarter of the time and far less headache. The stock 4 runner would still be a weekend gateway vehicle in places that are offroad but more for camping and hiking.

anyway...a 99 3rz automatic just came up for sale down the road....did not know much about them until this thread
wish it was a 5 speed, have not seen it...its a friend of a friend type deal...gonna drive out and look at it sunday...its not advertised so not racing people to see it and stuff

Good luck. The 3rz is a very nice engine to have from a maintenance perspective if you are the type to do your own. Lots of room and great layout.
On top of the other 4Runner buyers info which I’m sure you know, the 3rz’s main weakness is valve adjustments. They need to be done periodically just like the v6 needs timing belts. If the PO doesn’t know about it plan on checking them.

I Really dig this build. Had to look up a few of your mods. I had a base model and swapped to limited leather seating, but would be interested in the Range Rover seats? (Is my DD). What year/model RR works for a seat swap (assuming a little welding needed to attach to the runner).

Power steering pump
Has anyone had an issue with removing the front bolt on the power steering pump? I was trying to clean mine ie. Timmy the toolman video but I cannot get to the front bolt no matter how I rotate the holes in the pump!?! What am I missing?
