Update...I drained the coolant, installed a new T-stat, top and bottom radiator hose and flushed the system with a $5 dollar kit. No more overheating. I'm not sure if it was the T-stat which was already replaced once, or the brown crap that came out of the block when it was flushed but she does not overheat anymore. Runs great and hold to just below middle of the temp gauge. I will do a full test drive tomorrow but she did well for 30 minutes tonight around town. For anyone thinking of doing the head gasket and timing belt, here is what you might expect to spend.

From date of vehicle purchase to completion took 3 weeks and two days. I started work on the vehicle right away learning as I went. I worked on nights and weekends until it was done. I have been working on cars for 15 years but never anything in side the engine. This forum and others had everything that was needed as far as info and expertise goes. I did not have to go to a local mechanic for anything. Tools needed are; impact wrench for the cam bolts, puller for the harmonic balancer, fabricated tool for reinstallation of balancer, timing light, butt load of beer(local, domestic and imported), wife to hold timing belt while installing, wife to operate clutch during bleeding(not sure why they had me disconnect that). I had to buy a bunch of extra bolts and hardware because half of the engine was in the back of the truck when I bought it so I did not have a record of which bolts went where. The import car bolt kit was a life saver. Take pictures from every angle before and during dissasembly. Good luck and have fun.
